The Blackhawk slowly moves through the night sky over Elcadan as it approaches the Duke’s Castle. Dusk has gone ahead to scout out the area and the owl has spotted movement in the highest tower. Two drow keep watch there. Strangely enough, no other guards are spotted in the other towers and observation areas. Even stranger, there does not seem to be any light coming from inside the castle. The drow do not need light and in fact tend to shun it might explain that.
At Sir Corley’s command, Argent and Chareos cast Magic Missiles at the drow. Argent flies from the deck of the Blackhawk until she’s got a good line of sight. Then her signature sparkling and twisting Magic Missiles are unleashed. All five missiles sink into one of the drow and she crumbles to the floor almost without a sound.
However, the missiles are easily spotted against the dark night sky. The second drow turns, trying to see what is going on. She spots the Blackhawk and her eyes grow wide. At the same time, Chareos launches his own Magic Missiles and the second guard goes down.
Those on the ground and stationed on the wall of the castle take note of this. They are hard to make out in the darkness, except when near a light source. They are also too far away to be much of a threat.
Serena moves the Blackhawk closer to the observation deck right below the tall tower where the drow were. The area on the deck is deserted. The ship lowers itself closer and the gangway between the castle and the Blackhawk is in place.
The Guardians followed by their Seeker allies move across the gangway. Once across, Serena has the Blackhawk rise up higher into the sky and then joins you.
A single door leads off the observation deck. Behind it are spiraling stairs. They go up to where the drow where and also down deeper into the castle. There are no light sources in the castle. Torches will need to be light, or the light from Sir Acerion’s or Ivy’s holy weapons can provide some illumination. Or a Continual Light spell could be used too.
One level down, which would correspond to the 4th floor of the castle (the tall tower was the 6th floor, and the arrival point on the 5th), you come to another door. The stairs continue to go down.
Based on the maps provided by Warton, behind this door should be a hallway that leads to two more observation decks. A quick inspect reveals this to be accurate.
Continuing downward, the stairs end at the level below, which is the third floor of the castle. You come out in a small hallway with three exits. According to the maps, the middle exit leads out to yet another observation deck and a quick check confirms this.

At this point the groups split up. The Guardians take one of the remaining doors, the Seekers the other. Both doors lead into the same large chamber, so neither group is far from the other.
The doors lead to a large balcony that surrounds the grand ballroom of the castle. An open space measure some 80 feet by 100 feet drops all the way to the ground floor of the castle. The balcony completely encircles the opening, except for the part that’s in the hallway where the groups entered.
There’s a single door not far from the entry points on both sides of the balcony. Based on the maps these should both lead to guest rooms. On either side of the balcony as you move towards the other side, there is another door. Each of these doors leads to observation areas. For those going down the right hand side of the balcony, there is an additional opening that leads to stairs spiraling down deeper into the castle.
On the far side of the balcony is a pair of double doors. The ones further to the left lead to the Duke’s Private office. The other doors lead to a hallway and from there two more observation decks.
Looking down towards the ballroom below, you can just make out the balcony that surrounds the opening on the second floor of the castle. This balcony is larger and has many more doors leading to other chambers. Based on the map, most of these chambers are the private rooms for the duke and his family, along with some guest chambers.
As you take in the view, you can’t help but notice the dust and dirt. It appears that it’s been a very long time since anyone cleaned here. Some footprints are noted in the dust. Best guess would have then belonging to elves, or more likely drow.
It’s around now that those looking up begin to notice movement overhead, around the high ceiling over the grand ballroom. Hovering just at the edge of the light are what superficially seem to be clouds of living darkness. The clouds shift form and billow in the open air. Occasionally they take on almost humanoid shape. But what really sets them apart is their glowing, malevolent looking red eyes! They circle overhead at a safe distance from both groups, but they can’t help remind you of vultures circling their kill.
Ivy is the first to realize just what these creatures are: “Wraiths!” And there appears to be dozens of the murderous undead floating over the grand ballroom, just waiting to strike.

getting inside..
Sherra:
Magic is successful in dispatching the guards and the ship settles down low enough for everyone to disembark. Sherra leaves just before Serena, ensuring everything is in place for the ship to be left hovering a short distance away. Once inside, Sherra stays near the front, examining doors and arches for traps and the like. There seems to be a good amount of dust, but enough footprints that keep her cautious. Soon though another problem arises.
Once more Sherra takes over command of getting the flying ship to its destination. She revels in the task but all too soon they have arrived. It would appear that the only guards this night are drow, and that does not bode well for their mission. That evening, Serena takes control of the Blackhawk and with assistance of Sherra pilots it towards the Duke’s Castle. The guards are revealed to be drow, the dark elves that dwell in the Underdark. But this revelation doesn’t really change things. Serena will remain on the Blackhawk until everyone is away. Once she steps onto the castle’s battlements, she’ll command the Blackhawk to rise up about fifty more feet and stop. Once that is accomplished, Serena will then follow the others into the castle.

Sherra is uncertain whether her magic is strong enough to deal with these undead. Hopefully the priests among them will be enough, but she draws her magical blades just in case it isn't.It’s around now that those looking up begin to notice movement overhead, around the high ceiling over the grand ballroom. Acerion
Sir Acerion:
Acerion remains stoic on the flight over, standing next to his beloved Ivy with his eyes trained on the Duke's castle as they approach. His thoughts are his own and his expression is one of grim determination. He isn't sure what they'll face, but on this night he plans to cleanse another of evil's strongholds.
Lyonessa reports that there are drow on the towers and Corley changes the plan to a more aggressive one. Magic is loosed and the two drow fall before any resistance can be brought to bear. Shortly thereafter, Acerion crosses the short distance from ship to castle and readies his holy axe.
The glow from his own axe is enough illumination for the paladin, but he will raise it higher if they decide to rely solely on the magical light. Eventually they get further inside and the groups split off, although still close enough at this point to offer aid to one another. They press on room after room with no one seemingly around, until Acerion senses something just isn't quite right and looks up.
Ivy is the first to realize just what these creatures are: “Wraiths!” And there appears to be dozens of the murderous undead floating over the grand ballroom, just waiting to strike.
"Dispatch them quickly," Acerion urges, looking to the priests of the group to let them try their hand first. Should it prove necessary to close to melee, Acerion will act as a shield as best he can with his holy protections and swing at any in range of his axe.

Corley
Corley:
The drow are easily dispatched and that does concern Sir Corley. He had thought that they were tougher opponents than that. We cross over into the castle and begin to work our way down. No other guards are spotted and it isn’t until we reach the third floor on the balcony overlooking the ballroom that another threat presents itself.
Sir Corley will let the priests do their thing first and will attack any of the undead who get close enough with his Greatsword.
“That’s right,” Sir Corley agrees. “I hadn’t realized that before. This might also mean that there is another entrance to the Underdark in the depths of this very castle!”Crysania wrote:“Yes, it does,” Crysania agrees. “But perhaps we should have expected as much. Everywhere we’ve been where the sisters have let their evil fester has had drow present as well. At Corunglain and then again at Wrasseldown. The only place there wasn’t drow was Ansimont and they had a different Underdark problem. We must be prepared for anything.”

Argent
Argent:
Argent lands by the drow and cautiously makes her way down the stairs. One floor below, she meets up with the rest of the group after they’ve transferred over from the Blackhawk. The castle is dark inside, but it is of no hindrance to Argent with her Halo of Eye’s spells. She’s, literally, got eyes in the back of her head!
Argent moves with the group on foot as they go deeper into the castle. There doesn’t seem to be much resistance thus far. But that soon changes.
Argent watches her Magic Missiles take down the drow target with a look of smug satisfaction. Chareos takes down the other drow and that seems to take care of that.At Sir Corley’s command, Argent and Chareos cast Magic Missiles at the drow. Ivy
Ivy:
Ivy follows along near the rear of the group. When it becomes apparent that light is needed, she’ll command the Kiss of Azrella to illuminate the area around her. As the group moves deeper into the castle, the hairs on the back of Ivy’s neck start to rise up. She can sense that something is very wrong here, but just what eludes her. Until…
Ivy will Turn Undead, trying to destroy as many as possible or at the very least force them away. Afterwards she’ll smash the wraiths with her mace.

Serena
Serena:
After stepping of the Blackhawk, Serena follows the others into the castle. It’s dark and to help light the way, Serena has the head of her Staff of Fire burst into flames, illuminating the area much like a torch.
Deeper inside the castle wraiths circle overhead. Serena will turn them, before using her spells to combat them.

Honor - Justice - Valor
Cereld
Cereld:
Cereld leads his fellow Seekers deeper into the castle. Trailing behind the priest is the warrior Blod, Arocken, Dar, Araduin and Bernice. We emerge on the balcony overlooking the ballroom and find a host of undead present!
Cereld will Turn Undead and urge his companions to, “Back to the hallway! We can’t let these monsters surround us!”

Post Continued
Post Continued:
The Guardians and the Seekers have penetrated the Duke of Elcadan’s castle. They found drow guards stationed on the high tower and dealt with them. Moving deeper into the castle, they reached the third floor and are on a large balcony that surrounds the opening of the Grand Ballroom. Hovering over the ballroom is a cloud of wraiths! The vengeful undead spirits fly about overhead and they are moving closer!
Cereld instructs the Seekers to retreat back to the hallway for safety while he calls upon Heironeous to repel these foul creatures. The turn meets with limited success as some of the wraiths fly away from the Seekers.
One the other side of the balcony Serena and Ivy use their ability to Turn Undead. Serena forces more of the wraiths away. (Crysania seems to have forgotten that she can’t Turn Undead.)
Argent tosses a Fireball into the midst of the monsters wounding a few and vaporizing others.
While the huge cloud of wraiths remain overhead, something else begins to attract your attention. Ivy is still preparing her Turn Undead, but she’s beginning to glow! A floating blue infinity symbol appears before Ivy, the holy symbol of Azrella. The glow reminds you of bright sunlight and you are soon forced to look away.
All at once, the glow erupts from Ivy in every direction, filling the entire area! There is nowhere for the wraiths to flee to that the light doesn’t follow. Each undead is vaporized upon contact with the bright light. For a brief moment, it’s as if the sun itself is within the castle. The light illuminates the castle itself and everyone in Elcadan can see it.
When the light fades, all the wraiths are destroyed. The blue infinity symbol fades away and Ivy collapses from the effort.
Those looking before the light is completely gone that there are more drow on the ballroom floor, perhaps a dozen in all. They are all temporarily blinded from the bright light. These drow can be easily captured as they are too disorientated to put up much of a fight.

GM Notes
GM Notes:
The wraiths are gone and you can capture or slay the dozen or so drow on the ballroom floor. Your choice.
A quick search will turn up no other threats on the first six floors of the castle. That just seems to leave the underground levels.
The map shows two entrances to the basement of the castle. The first is off the ballroom and the feast hall and was used by the servant to reach the kitchen area and their quarters below. The second is from a guard post near the front of the castle and leads to other security areas. The basement is all connected, so you can reach any area from either entrance. However, the way to the lower basement is near the guard entryway.
Now what? And what happened to Ivy?

Ivy
Ivy:
Ivy goes into the familiar ritual of drawing upon divine energy to destroy undead, but this time it seems different somehow. It’s taking longer for the power to build, but it also seems more powerful then ever before. A bright light appears and them envelops the entire area. Ivy blacks out after that.
The priestess comes around a few moments after that. Sir Acerion is by her side, a concerned look on his face.
“I’m okay,” Ivy says, sitting up. “Mother Boelle explained it to me just now while I was unconscious. Something strange happened when I saw her for the last time. She hugged me and something happened. Some physical force was transmitted from her and into me. I didn’t understand it at the time, and given what was going on, really didn’t dwell on it.”
“Mother Boelle possessed the Shield of Life, the Guardian Shield dedicated to Azrella. She passed it on to me right before she died. What just happened was that the Shield of Life increased my ability to destroy undead, much like Sir Acerion’s paladin abilities being enhanced by the Shield of Justice.”
“But she told me something more. We all assumed that the shields had to be close to each other for them to link and work. That is not the case. The distance between the shields is not a factor. All that is between the shields will be protected, as well as everything forty miles away from each shield. The Guardian Shield can protect Cynalon from our enemies, including those from the lower planes. If we can gather the four shields and place each on in the arms of a statue dedicated to the patron of the shield, then depending on where the shields are placed, most if not all of the kingdom can be protected! Not just Ardelphia.”
After being helped to her feet, Ivy will follow along with the rest of the group. Her mind wanders, wondering what other powers the Shield of Life possesses.

Sir Corley
Sir Corley:
Sir Corley stands ready to engage the enemy as they draw closer. However, that is not to be as Lady Ivy taps into some unknown ability and destroys the unit of undead!
“Impressive,” Sir Corley notes.
The Lady Ivy then does collapse, apparently overwhelmed by the task. Sir Acerion is by her side a moment later. Noting the drow on the floor of the ballroom, Sir Corley will issue orders while Lady Ivy is incapacitated.
“Capture those drow before they cause any more trouble,” Sir Corley commands. “If they resist, deal with them as you see fit.”
Turning back, Corley can see that Ivy has recovered from whatever it was that affected her. She then proceeds to explain and her tale is quite fascinating!
“So the Guardian Shield can be employed in a manner that could protect most, if not all, of Cynalon from her enemies? This is grand news! But we are a long way from being ready to do so. We’ll need to recover the other two shields and then decide where they can be placed.”
After a moment’s thought, Sir Corley will ask, “Do we even know where the other two shields are?”
Then Sir Corley will proceed down to the ballroom where the drow are. Those who do surrender will have their weapons take away.
Turning to Sir Acerion, Sir Corley will say, “I am of two minds on how to proceed next, my friend. On the one hand, my thought is to march the drow out of the castle and into the courtyard so that the members of the Duke’s Guard can see just who they are protecting and end this stalemate. My other thought is to continue on into the lower levels of the castle and deal with whatever threat awaits us there. Both are necessary goals to accomplish. Perhaps we should split the group up and try both?”

Argent
Argent:
Argent’s fireball tears through the enemy, but it doesn’t destroy as many of the monsters that she thought it would. Even worse, they are just forced away by Serena’s turning and not destroyed!
“I think we might be in trouble,” Argent mutters.
Then she notices the bright light coming from Ivy. Almost like pure sunlight. Then it lashes out destroying all of the undead!
“That’s handy”, Argent notes.
Ivy collapses and there is some concern over that. Sir Corley orders the drow to be captured or killed if they resist. Argent is getting ready to fly off to aid in that matter and to further explore the castle, when she hears:
Argent flies off to help with the drow. She’ll do a quick check of the rest of the castle area, before landing with the others on the ballroom floor. Sir Acerion and Sir Corley are conversing, perhaps trying to determine what to do next. Argent will wait to see what they decide to do.

It was the only one that had been found.”Sir Corley wrote:“So the Guardian Shield can be employed in a manner that could protect most, if not all, of Cynalon from her enemies? This is grand news! Serena
Serena:
Serena uses her ability to Turn Undead, but it only forces some of the wraiths back. Perhaps Ivy, knowing how strong her order is in combating undead, will be more successful. But what transpires is even more astounding then Serena ever expected! A bright light fills the castle, destroy the wraiths in its passing. The holy symbol of Azrella hangs in the air and Serena has no doubt that this was far more than just a simple turning.
Ivy collapses and Serena will go to her side, casting Cure Light Wounds if necessary. The priestess quickly recovers and recounts an astounding tale about how she now possesses the Shield of Life, one of the four Guardian Shields. Serena learns that Sir Acerion possesses the Shield of Justice and that the Shield of Protection is safe up in Corunglain. That just leaves the Shield of Magic, believed to be in the Tower of Magic itself.
“It seems to me that a trip to the Tower of Magic should be in our near future. Not only to recover the Shield of Magic, but to discover the method to entrap the demoness and learn the fate of Kharyna.”
Serena follows along, allowing others to deal directly with the drow. She’ll keep her eyes open for any treachery on their part.

Knight of the Mystic Fire
Crysania
Crysania:
Crysania attempts to turn undead, having forgotten that she spent more time honing her combat skills than learning that particular talent. Fortunately, it’s not a critical error as Ivy destroys the wraiths in a display of power that should be beyond her talents.
The flash has also helped us in other ways. More drow wait down on the ballroom floor and they have been blinded by the light of righteousness. Sir Corley orders what is already on Crysania’s mind. The drow are to be captured, if possible, for questioning. If they resist, then we are free to act as we see fit.
“Let’s round these scum up!” Crysania says, holding her axe high.
Crysania will lead the charge down the stairs the ground floor of the castle. She’ll direct those with her to surround the drow.
Once ready, Crysania will say, “You’re surrounded! Drop your weapons now if you wish to live!”

Honor - Justice - Valor
Cereld
Cereld:
Cereld’s efforts only force a few of the wraith away from the Seekers. Fear starts to grip the priest, but then a bright light erupts from the other group and it seems to destroy the wraiths!
“Praise be to Heironeous, but what just happened?”
The Seekers are too far away to hear much of what is going on over there, but it is clear that we are moving on. Crysania cries something out and rushes towards the stairs.
“Come, Seekers. Let’s follow her!”
Once on the ballroom floor, Cereld can see more drow await us. Following orders, he and the rest of the Seekers spread out to contain the enemy.

In the name of Heironeous, Justice shall be done!
Lyonessa:
“If you ask me,” Myveria says mischievously to Lyonessa, “I’d say that he’s a keeper! So well mannered and proper. And handsome!”
"Well I don't remember asking you!" Lyonessa says, playfully nudging her sister. She agrees that Moonshadow is all those things, but her thoughts still drift to someone so far away.
“Do not concern yourself, milady,” Moonshadow states. “If guard duty does one thing, it teaches you patience. I am glad that you enjoyed yourself. Darkness is beginning to fall. I am sure that Sir Corley will require our presence at the Sallavarian Estate soon. Are you ready to depart?”
"Yes, I do believe so," Lyonessa says and soon they leave. She prepares for the following day and converses with Dusk on what she needs him to do. Being on the flying ship is such fun, it's too bad their task isn't.
Lyonessa has Dusk flying ahead to scout out the situation. Movement is spotted in the high tower, guards on watch no doubt. There appears to be two of them on duty. However, as Dusk flies closer Lyonessa gasps upon seeing that these guards are not men, nor are they human. They are drow!
"Drow!" Lyonessa exclaims. As the others look at her, she adds, "Two of them, on the tower. I wasn't expecting drow, although I guess maybe we should have all along."
Thankfully the drow are no real threat and everyone gets off the ship safely. They move inside and we break off into two groups. As we explore, something doesn't feel right. Lyonessa soon finds they ventured into a very deadly trap.
Before she can even think to attempt to turn the wraiths, Ivy does so in spectacular fashion. "Oh my," Lyonessa says as she shields her eyes. Ivy collapses after destroying the wraiths but soon comes around. It appears she is in possession of one of the shields! She listens to the story, choosing to stay while Crysania goes to round up the dazed drow. In case Ivy isn't completely all right, Lyonessa will offer assistance, magical or mundane.

Chareos
Argent lands by the drow and cautiously makes her way down the stairs. One floor below, she meets up with the rest of the group after they’ve transferred over from the Blackhawk. The castle is dark inside, but it is of no hindrance to Argent with her Halo of Eye’s spells. She’s, literally, got eyes in the back of her head!
“I don’t think I will ever get used to seeing you use that spell.” As Chareos is reminded of some kind of horsefly though an oddly beautiful one.
Within the next few moments many things transpire, for some reason Chareos stands rooted to the spot. As Wraiths fly about their heads, Many are turned but then a bright light illuminates the Hall(?) shielding his eyes as the bright light soon passes, Chareos can see Ivy upon the floor. “What spell was that?!?” he asks surprised seeing Ivy regain her feet, soon enough the answer comes to light apparently the shield of Life is within her!
Soon after drow are seen dazed and confused by Ivy’s holy light.
“Capture those drow before they cause any more trouble,” Sir Corley commands. “If they resist, deal with them as you see fit.”
Turning to Sir Acerion, Sir Corley will say, “I am of two minds on how to proceed next, my friend. Perhaps we should split the group up and try both?”
Before leaving to help surround the Drow, Chareos says to Sir Corley, “You may add guarding remaining Drow to that.” He says evenly. “ If they so choose.”
Drowing his frostbrand Charoes will proceed to the lower level with the others to secure and disarm the drow( if one should not surrender he will cut them down)
“That certainly changes things.” He says as he soon listens to Sir Corley’s orders. “Think its time to give these drow a proper welcome.”"Drow!" Lyonessa exclaims. As the others look at her, she adds, "Two of them, on the tower. I wasn't expecting drow, although I guess maybe we should have all along."

Regnak
Drowing his Morningstar and Shortsword, Rek makes his way with the others down the stairs to a large room. Many undead fly about the ceiling, one he never seen before! Wraiths!” is soon called out and they are dealt with by turning magic and a beacon of light that tears at their twisted forms till there is nothing of them to see. Looking at Ivy, “Are you alright?” he asks seeing her upon the ground, “Never before have I seen such light.”
Rek goes down to help deal with the drow but can’t help but overhear the conversation between Sir Corley and Acerion, Turning to Sir Acerion, Sir Corley will say, “I am of two minds on how to proceed next, my friend. Ivy:
After being helped to her feet by Lyonessa and Sir Acerion, Ivy is ready to continue on with the mission.

Together it the affect was devastating to undead.”Chareos wrote:Within the next few moments many things transpire, for some reason Chareos stands rooted to the spot. Sir Corley
Corley:
“And even if most of the Duke’s Guard is allied against us, we have other allies just outside the gate in the form of the followers of Heironeous, Helm and the Free Guard. Regardless of what transpires, we’ll have allies who can guard the drow.”
“There is another option as well. There are prisoner cells in the sub-basement. The drow who do not resist can be taken there and held, freeing us up to continue our mission.”
Sir Corley turns back to Sir Acerion for his wise council.
“That it is, Lady Ivy, that it is.”Lady Ivy wrote:“That is how I understand it,” Ivy will answer. “And yes, this is wonderful news! To be able to protect all of Cynalon from its enemies is almost a dream come true.”

“You both make good points,” Sir Corley agrees. “Yes, we must venture to the Tower of Magic to recover the items you mentioned, Lady Serena. And yes, travel on the Blackhawk would be much faster. Once our obligations to Duke Relon are completed, we’ll be able to pursue these other missions. I can envision several other targets for us to travel to on the Blackhawk. “Yes, I am assuming that the rank and file are still loyal to the crown,” Sir Corley answers. “We’ve seen enough of the sister’s operations to know what to expect. They only seem to control those in charge, counting on them to keep those below them in line. We saw this in Ansimont where only the Baron was enthralled. We saw it again with the Captain of the Blackhawk. Therefore, it is my assumption that this Frietaug is under their control and any man who crosses him is slain on sight. So if we remove Frietaug, then dealing with the Duke’s Guard becomes that much easier.”Regnak wrote:Keeping his grip on his Morningstar and shortsword, Rek does not take his eyes from the drow though says, “And if the guards are somehow charmed to see you as a foe what then? Argent:
The spell creates a halo of eyeballs that float over Argent’s head. They are not actually on her body.
“Why?” Argent will question. “It’s not that distracting and very advantageous. It allows me to see in the dark and in every direction. Very handy while exploring.”Chareos wrote:“I don’t think I will ever get used to seeing you use that spell.” As Chareos is reminded of some kind of horsefly though an oddly beautiful one.

Acerion
Sir Acerion:
The paladin was expecting spectacular results from Ivy against the wraiths, but not in the magnitude he just witnessed! Never before has he seen a mortal display such power. In an instant, with the immediate threat eliminated, Acerion is at Ivy's side. Soon Lyonessa is there as well, and the others gather around.
"What a gift she bestowed upon you," Acerion replies thoughtfully, helping his beloved up. Ivy continues to reveal other things she has learned, including that the shields can protect a far wider area than previously believed. She also explains the spell that she believes was in use when she turned her devotion towards the wraiths. A truly powerful embodiment of her goddess' will Ivy has become.
Turning to Sir Acerion, Sir Corley will say, “I am of two minds on how to proceed next, my friend. On the one hand, my thought is to march the drow out of the castle and into the courtyard so that the members of the Duke’s Guard can see just who they are protecting and end this stalemate. "The drow should indeed be shown to all, but I believe we need to complete our task here as well," Acerion replies. He further listens to Ragnak's concerns and Corley's replies. "I do agree that it is only the leader, and maybe the luietenants that are held under any sway," Acerion adds. "Regardless, as mentioned, our allies are numerous and growing and with a little diplomacy, there should be no concern for mass bloodshed. In order for diplomacy to work though, we must finish here, being certain no loose ends remain."
"We can leave them in the cells provided they can not use their magics," Acerion says. "From what I know, drow can be a crafty lot and it would do no good to leave an enemy at our back that could harass or hinder us. I would assume a silence spell would work, although I am uncertain about any innate abilities they may posses. A small guard might be required to ensure this matter remains controlled."
My other thought is to continue on into the lower levels of the castle and deal with whatever threat awaits us there. Both are necessary goals to accomplish. Perhaps we should split the group up and try both?”

that takes care of that..
Sherra:
The topic of what to do with them is being discussed. When an opportunity arise, Sherra will offer, "I can stay behind to help guard. I suggest keeping a bright light in their cells as they seem to not do well with one. Also, it would mess up their infravision right? I could remain hidden in the shadows to make them believe they have no, or not as many, guards. They may not have loose tongues in their cells, but we might get lucky too."
Sherra shields her eyes as the room grows incredibly bright, almost to the point of being painful. As she tries to blink her sight back, she catches glimpes that look like more drow stumbling about dazed. Ivy appears alright, and so Sherra moves with some of the others to secure the drow. She approaches them with her blades drawn and ready, prepared to strike down any who do not immediately surrender.

Post Continued:
The swarm of wraith that the Deville sisters left behind in the Duke’s castle has been destroyed in spectacular fashion. Unknown to all, Ivy now possesses the Shield of Life, one of the four Guardian Shields. It was passed on to her from Mother Boelle on the latter’s deathbed. The Shield amplified Ivy’s ability to destroy undead resulting in the complete destruction of the wraith.
In the process of destroying the wraith, a group of drow was discovered on the floor of the ballroom. The incredibly bright light temporarily blinded the drow. The Seekers and some of the Guardians went down to take charge of the new prisoners. The drow don’t put up much of a fight and are easily controlled. They are armed with drow chainmail, drow shields, and drow shortswords.
The ground floor of the castle is much cleaner then the upper levels. At least down here the demons at least made a pretense of trying to look normal.
It is decided to continue clearing out the castle before venturing outside to dead with the Duke’s Guard. The drow are to be taken to the holding cells in the sub-levels of the castle. According to the map, there is an entrance to the castle’s lower levels close by. It’s in a security checkpoint area, between the main entrance and the Duke’s Audience chamber. There, stairs lead down to the basement.
The stairs emerge on a large landing. A double door leads way from the landing to other guard areas in the basement. There is an office for the commander, a small barracks, and an armory. A door at the end of the hallway leads to the rest of the basement where the castle staff lived and cooked meals.
At the opposite end of the landing, stairs lead down to the next sub-level. The maps on this area are not as well defined as above. What is known is that the holding cells are down here and the family crypt.
The second set of stairs lead you to a large guard post. One door off the room leads to a hallway with small cells on either side of it. A second door leads into the crypt area. Both doors can be barred from the guard post side, but at the moment neither door is.
The basement levels show signs of not being as well cleaned as the first floor of the castle. Dust and dirt litters the floor. There is a noticeable path going down the stairs from first floor to the guard post outside the cellblock. The footprints go to the door that leads to the crypt. Based on the size and shape of the footprints it’s clear that they are drow in origin. The drow came from the crypt of the castle!

GM Notes:
How are you going to move into the castle crypt? Are you going to try and get any of the drow to talk? Lyonessa’s harp can potentially charm the whole lot of them with one charm spell. There are enough cells in the block that you could put each drow in their own cell. Or put them all together? Or some combination of that?
Silence spells only have a duration of 2 rounds per level, so they won’t last long. So basically I need to know what you are going to do with the drow and the plan to move into the crypt. The blindness they are suffering from is only temporary. It will wear off at some point.
Now what?

Sir Corley:
Turning to the group, Sir Corley announces the next course of actions and inquires if anyone in the group has magic that will help keep the drow secured while the group continues to explore.
Once the drow are dealt with, we next turn our attention to moving deeper into the Duke of Elcadan’s family crypt. Footprints on the floor seem to indicate that the drow came from this area.
“Clearly we are moving deeper into enemy territory. Being creatures of the dark, our light will alert them to our presence long before we are aware of theirs. To that end, I suggest that those among us who can move in the dark unhindered move ahead to scout out the area. Then the rest of us will follow.”
“I would also suggest that both Sir Acerion and Lady Ivy use their innate detection abilities are regular intervals. Given where we are about to go and what we are facing, you should be able to sense something.”
“If there are no other questions, then let us continue onward.”
“Very well then,” Sir Corley agrees. “We herd these prisoners to the cells below and secure them there. Ivy:
Thankfully there is no bloodshed when the drow are encountered. The light generated by the Holy Artifact of Azrella blinded them, taking the fight from them. It is decided that they be held in cells here in the castle for now. Ivy has no objections and nothing further to add on the matter.
It is time to move forward once more.

The drow are easily overpowered and it is decided to lock them up in the castle dungeon.
“Lastly, my earrings are capable of translating any language that I hear. Basically, I can understand what they are saying. They’re not happy about being captured and are defiant. A few of said that Triel will destroy us, whoever that is, and that all they have to do is wait to be rescued.”

It’ll last over an hour and a half, giving us plenty of time to conclude our explorations before they are free to move once more. I can even put a Continual Light in the cell too, making it even more difficult for them to function. Or I can save the spell for our encounter with the rest of the drow. Crysania:
The drow are herded down to the castle holding cells. Along the way the question of how to secure them arises.
“I agree with Argent’s notion of webbing them up. It’ll keep them secure for a time and out of mischief.”
Turning back to Sir Acerion and Sir Corley, Crysania will add, “I have magic that will allow me to function in the darkness. However, I lack the stealth needed to be among the scouts. I can, however, function as a back up to them. Perhaps following them at the outermost range of my vision while the main group follows behind me.”
If Sir Acerion and Sir Corley are in agreement, than Crysania will cast Omniscient Eye and then follow behind the scouts at a discrete distance.

“I’ve dealt with their kind before,” Crysania states. “You need really bright light to affect them in any manner. Torchlight won’t do it. Full sunlight or magical light is required. It doesn’t really hurt them, just makes it harder for them to function, much like how we’d be limited moving in near darkness. You’re more unsure, you move and react slower.”Sherra wrote:The topic of what to do with them is being discussed. When an opportunity arise, Sherra will offer, "I can stay behind to help guard. Sir Corley:
The discussion over what to do with the drow prisoners and how to proceed deeper into their lair continues.
“Remember, we are about to enter into enemy territory. When battle breaks out, do not charge. They are more familiar with the terrain than we are. I don’t want anyone needlessly rushing into a trap. We hold ranks, letting the enemy come to us. Then, when able, we advance as a group. Let’s go clean out this nest of vipers!”

Rek will follow the scouts down into the crypt, saying a small prayer to Mystria under his breath as he does so.
“Never thought I’d be doing this.” He says evenly as he readies his morning star and shortsword. “Going into a crypt to do battle drow , if only my kin could see me now.” He says sarcastically knowing his family would look down on entering a crypt.“Excellent,” Sir Corley states. “Dar and Arocken will lead the way in. Sherra:
I need to acquire an item or something that simulates infravision, Sherra thinks as they start to head out. It's only in rare situations that she is at a disadvantage, but unfortunately this is one of those times.
Not having to babysit a bunch of drow captives, Sherra gets ready to keep moving. She wouldn't have overly minded, as having an opportunity to study an enemy more might have proved useful, but they will be securely bound now and should prove no threat.“Agreed, Lady Crysania,” Sir Corley responds. “And it frees up Lady Sherra to come with us. Sir Acerion:
“Yes, it is a true blessing,” Ivy agrees. “I cannot help but wonder just how long she’s possessed the Shield. Was it waiting for me all this time?”
