Eternal Vigilance #79 - "The Cookout"

Roll Call: Virtually Everyone

It is now late Sunday afternoon and after a rocky start, the weekend has been quiet and relaxing. Everyone has received an invitation for an impromptu get together at the penthouse apartment of Gwen Starr. Gwen is better known as Goldstar and she founded and led the Vigilant for many years, before turning that role over to Flux. Gwen also owns numerous businesses and property in the San Diego area.

The Starr Building is well known to everyone. It has the offices of Vigilant Incorporated, a security firm and has the offices of Dr. Mary Beth William’s clinic. The penthouse suite is where the Starr’s make their home. Access is by a private elevator that cannot be accessed by most. The elevator will open up for those who have a Comlink, however.

The suite is large and luxurious, but at the same time not ostentatious. The view is spectacular and there is a large outdoor deck. Several servants are on hand to make the experience easier. A lady greets you at the door and will provide directions. There is an open bar with a bartender on duty, but of course minors will not be served. A cook is working the grill, making hamburgers, hotdogs, steak and chicken to order. A long table has many salads and deserts to be had.

Outside there are many tables, chairs and loungers where you can relax. There is a matching area inside the apartment that is air conditioned, for those who want to get out of the sun. In the living room is a large flat screen TV with all the current game systems for those looking for that kind of entertainment. Gwen had Gloria’s old playpen brought out for Lance to use.

Gwen is there to greet you as you arrive. Her style of dress is casual; shorts, a blouse, and sandals. Gloria has a t-shirt and shorts combo.

“Welcome!” Gwen will say with a hug. “So glad that you could come. Some of the other guests have already arrived.”

When you arrive, there are other guests already present that Gwen will introduce you to. It is a man and a woman. The woman is on the short side with shoulder length black hair. She’ll be introduced as Jessica Flynn, an expert in the field of computers. Her companion was a handsome man with brown hair and eyes. He’ll be introduced as Tom Braden.

“Go on in and mingle. Dinner will be served in about an hour.”

GM Notes:

Gargoyle was updated in the last post. You guys will arrive in the order that you post.

Menagerie:

The time to leave for the Vigilant get-together arrives, so Lily and Donny load up his SUV with all the usual kid gear. Once it's all packed, they herd the kids in as well and get them buckled in safely. Rose is old enough now that she can buckle herself in properly. Soon, they are off.

Lily directs Donny to park in her assigned spot near the west elevator. Since they cannot really carry everything in one trip, they grab the most essential gear and head for the elevator with the kids. The other stuff can be fetched later as needed.

Riding up to the lobby, they then transfer to the Starr's private elevator and make the rest of the trip up to the penthouse suite. They are greeted at the door by a woman Lily doesn't know, but she introduces her family and then makes her way inside. Lily has been in the suite before, so she knows her way around. Having made sure that both the kids received a thick coating of sunblock, they should be fine out on the patio. Not surprising that they are among the first to arrive; being a lawyer, Lily is used to being punctual - being late for a court date is a great way to get on the bad side of a judge.

Lily proceeds first to Gwen as the hostest, carrying Lance in her arms. "Hello, Gwen! Wonderful to see you again. I know you've met Donny, Rose and Lance before, but I believe it's been a little while since the last time you saw the kids," she says, gesturing. Donny greets Gwen warmly, though Rose is a bit shy. Lance is happily making buzzing noises. "Thank you so much for inviting us."

When introduced to Jessica and Tom, Lily will greet them and introduce her family. Once the formalities are out of the way, she and Donny will stake out an area of the patio near the playpen Gwen provided - one less thing to carry up from the SUV! - to set down all of their things and establish as a central location for keeping an eye on the kids. Donny will fetch a glass of wine each for Lily and himself as they settle in.

As the festivities, Lily and Donny settle into the usual pattern of trading off - one mixes and sociallizes while the other watches over the kids. Since Donny works in computers, he naturally tends to "talk shop" with Jessica.
I'm not better than you. I am you.

Dave collected the toys for the kids out of the closet on his way to his brother's home. It would be sure and certain death to show up empty-handed. His niece and nephew will make short work of him. Of course after being 'horsey' for a few hours the difference will be negligible anyway.

Dave catches a cab out. Not having a car seemed like a good expense saving idea. Since the 'change' in him having a car has been less of a handicap then ever.

The place is as well kept as ever. A green lawn, flower beds, one small tree all maintained by the two of them jointly. Green thumbs were just one of the things they had in common.

Dave moves straight to the back patio toward the sounds of happy laughter and a barking dog at play.

"Hello the house! Old uncle comes! Treat carefully! Fragile old bones here!"

The greeting has the usual effect. Two human rockets barrel around the side of the house, lock their targeting systems on the 'old uncle' and charge at ramming speed! 'Old uncle' attempts evasive maneuvers but the rockets are dedicated to collision and with a horrific impact 'old uncle' goes down in flames with the shrieking missiles onto the soft green lawn.

"Unca' Dave! Unca' Dave is here! Mommy, Daddy Unca' Dave is here!"

"Oh help! Won't some one save me? Anyone? Please? No? Well then I must bargin with these heathens for my release. I have shiny trinkets and chocolate bars. I shall give them over in exchange for safe passage to the patio. Do we have a deal?"

Arrangements are made to pacify the natives, hugs and kisses are traded in ritual greetings and finally 'old uncle' is brought into the presence of his brother and sister-in-law.

"Such a production every time Dave. Honestly you spoil them worse than my father and that's going a ways."

Shandra gives Dave a peck and a hug then moves off to confiscate the chocolate until after lunch.

"What are uncles for if not the spoiling of children? I remain unrepentant. By the way, that's some security system you have bro. Beats anything we have at work."

Sam turns from the grill to wave at Dave then goes back to the wings, franks and burgers. Food preparation was too serious a business to ignore for such a small matter as an older brother.

"I blame you", says Sam. "I personally think you are training them for a future career in football. How many burgers can I put you down for?"

Dave smiles and says "Why all of them of course! Silly question little brother. And you call yourself a genius. Overrated I say. You're much better off pursuing a job as a short order cook. I would raid your kitchen for the secret recipe for BBQ spareribs alone."

"Ha! As if I write down anything that important. You'd have to kidnap me and torture me to get it. Even then I'd lie." Sam flips a burger and examines the wings with a critical eye.

Dave takes out a notepad and pretends to write.

"OK Kidnapping and torture for BBQ secrets. I can put you down for Thursday. Does that work for you?"

Sam pretends to mull it over.

"Sure. That gets me out of the pre-meeting meeting they are going to have to discuss what the subject of the next meeting will be. Worse torture you could not find. I'm all yours."

"Done and done." Dave flips the notepad closed and moves closer to the grill.

"Smells good. Is it ready yet?"

"No. Don't take. It's barely cooked. Leave be" Sam waves his brother off with the spatula. "Caveman. Let fire do work. Leave high priest of flame be."

"OK, OK but be warned, I brought my appetite and he's hungry too!"

The two brother share a laugh over this old joke. Shandra just shakes her head. She's heard it all before

"Speaking of cookouts, we're having a small shindig at work tomorrow. You're invited if you want. You can get a chance to see the inside of the Starr building and eat someone else's cooking."

"Nice idea Dave but it's late notice for a sitter." Sam turns the wings and the franks, dabbing a bit more sauce on the wings.

"No sitter needed. Bring the rockets along. There will be other kids there and games to play. It's an afternoon thing not late evening. Think it over. While you're doing that I'm gonna go be horsey."

Dave gets out on the backyard preparing to be hobbyhorse-or so it seems but suddenly out of nowhere comes the Dreaded Atomic-Powered Super Squirt Gun of Doom!

Without mercy Dave fires repeatedly upon his helpless targets! Screams and shouts erupt! Much scattering ensues! In due course the Much-Feared Garden Hose of Escalation is brought into play! The battle collapses into chaos with many forces succumbing to friendly fire before the end. After much negotiation the combatants agree to a cease-fire and proceed to devour the well cooked offerings to the god of fire.

Upon further reflection it is agreed the truce will hold and teams are chosen for sporting games of lawn tennis, Frisbee, and go fetch the ball, ( dog optional ).

Later when the kids are finally tired out the adults talk of many things. The day is leisurly and full of good feeling. Somewhere in there Sam and Shandra agree that a second cookout is well worth going to and the day ends on a satisfactory note.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday is a bit hectic. Getting the kids in the van is a process best left to experts. Fortunately Dave knows two of them. Somehow it all works out in the end and the vehicle moves out into the afternoon traffic.

"I brought a car pass for the van. You can park in my space. It'll be open today."

Sam gives Dave a glance. "Today? As opposed to other days when it's occupied? By what?"

"Give it up Sam. I'm not buying a car. I don't need one. I can walk anywhere I want to shop and cab it to work. A single guy in mid-town does not need a car."

"Well what about dates? Do you take them in cabs too? That must spoil the mood."

Dave frowns. Is he going to bring that up now? I don't want to get into all that today. I made up my mind. It's not going to change.

Sensing Dave's mood shift , Sam adroitly changes the subject to Dave's coworkers and what to expect at the Starr building.

The kids get a kick out of the elevator and have to be discouraged from pressing all the buttons. Little Sam takes a special delight in getting the doors to pop open over and over again. Dora likes the bell noise too, clapping each time it rings.

Finally arriving at the penthouse a lady gives them directions to the Starr suite.

Dave makes the introductions, spotting Lily and a few others already present.

That must be Lily's husband. Odd. he's not the same man I remember from 'before'. Another change to our histories? Well, one more thing to try to incorporate. And keep quiet about.

Dave will lead his guests in to introduce them around, but he soon succumbs to the allure of the food and loads a plate up at the grill. By the time he has finished with that Sam and Shandra have mingled in, taken the lay of the land, and set the children up with food and toys.

Yes, experts indeed. Looks like Donny and Lily have their own system going too. Now if the Universe will just cooperate for another day . . .

Dave will mingle with the rest, talking shop ( i.e. security ) or sports or anything else that comes up unbending slightly as the afternoon procedes.

Tesla:

Tesla takes her bike out for a drive along the freeway in the early morning hours, opening up the speed on the yet-to-be-crowded lanes this early on a holiday weekend morning. The wind in her hair and the power of the engine underneath her brings back memories of her days when she was a test pilot for the military. Even though her powers replaced the need for a vehicle, she still misses it from time to time.

Later in the day she changes into her typical dress of shorts, tank shirt and combat boots. And sunglasses. She can no longer go out anywhere without those, at least if she wants to be 'normal' for a while. She'll arrive at the Starr building to see some of the others already there.

“Welcome!” Gwen will say with a hug. “So glad that you could come. Some of the other guests have already arrived.”

Tesla sees she is one of the only ones flying solo today and wonders if she should have brought her sister along. Still she ultimately agrees with her original decision not to and says her hellos. She will make her way to the food and claim a chair as her own. Most everyone is already engaged in conversation, so Tesla eats quietly and lets her mind wander to other things.

Blackout:

While not dressing up, Dylan does choose a much more formal attire for what the gathering probably calls for. First impressions and all that. He wears a button down shirt with slacks and comfortable shoes. He dons his dark glasses and grabs his cane. He suspects Rihalla with either go with a summer dress or some loose slacks and a blouse. He makes sure she goes with the shorter hairstyle as well.

They hail a cab and Dylan just smiles at Rihalla as they get in, knowing she could easily teleport them. This day isn't about being heroes though. It's about normalcy and a chance for new friends. They talk quietly on the drive over to the Starr building, mostly about public transportation and its uses. There are so many things she doesn't know, but Blackout finds he enjoys explaining these sort of things to her.

Upon arrival, he lets Rihalla lead him up even though there is no need to be guided. It's all about appearances. They are greeted upon reaching the correct floor and he makes his introductions, "I am Dylan and this is my assistant Rihalla. Thank you very much for the invite."

They will mingle and Blackout knows several of these people here are the counterparts to the heroes he has been helping. He thinks of something that might be fun and whispers to Rihalla, "Let's try to figure out just who the super heroes are and who isn't. Keep your guesses to yourself and we can see who comes closest later. I'm sure we'll find out eventually, but it might be fun to see if we can do it before we're told."

Blackout will find a comfortable spot for the two of them once the food is ready and will let her get them both some. He tells her to surprise him if she asks what he might want and he sits and 'observes' everyone as they talk, eat and play, quietly wondering if he could ever be comfortable as part of such a large team and family.

Gwen is up early getting the final preparations in place. Fortunately being wealthy has its perks when putting a party like this together almost overnight. Everything seems to be ready as the first guests arrive.
Lily wrote:Lily proceeds first to Gwen as the hostess, carrying Lance in her arms.
“Thank you for coming, Lily”, Gwen responds. “I know that it was a last minute thing, but it’s good to see you all again.” Gwen will greet Donny and smile at Rose’s shyness. “Oh he’s adorable!” Gwen will say about Lance and proceed to fuss over the lad like otherwise grown adults tend to do over small children.

“I invited Miss Flynn and her companion as I have need of her services next week on a special project of mine. In fact, I think you’ll be able to help as well,” Gwen tells Lily.
Dave wrote:Dave makes the introductions, spotting Lily and a few others already present.
“I glad you could come Dave,” Gwen tells Flux. “It’s been far too long. But I’m going to be around for a while this time. I’ve got some special projects that I’ll be involved with. I may need you’re the others help at times, but for the most part it should be business as usual and I won't be in the way. Other than the unexpected development with Gloria.”

Gwen is surprised by Dave’s guests, but makes no comment on the matter. “Pleased to meet you all. Dave has spoken about you all many times before, Doctor Soloman.”

“Hello, Krystie, so good you could make it.” Gwen says to Tesla. “I’ve got a project coming up this week that I could use your piloting and electronics skills for. Well talk about it more tomorrow, tonight is for relaxing and catching up.”

Gwen is curious as to who the next arrivals are, but figures it out quickly. “Good to meet you, Dylan. Rihalla? That’s a most unusual name. Please come in. Mingle and enjoy.”

Gwen will find the time to speak to everyone and at least touch base.

Ri picks out one of the sundresses she just got and a pair of strappy sandals for the occasion. She’ll go with shoulder length hair as directed.

Dylan seems to enjoy trying to be normal, so Ri just goes with it. It makes him happy, so that makes her happy. He’s quite knowledgeable about what’s going on in the city.
Dylan wrote:Upon arrival, he lets Rihalla lead him up even though there is no need to be guided. It's all about appearances. They are greeted upon reaching the correct floor and he makes his introductions, "I am Dylan and this is my assistant Rihalla. Thank you very much for the invite."
During the trip, Rihalla acts as Dylans guide as best she can. It’s going to take some getting used too, but she’s a fast learner.

“Hi,” Rihalla will say when introduced to Gwen.
Dylan wrote:They will mingle and Blackout knows several of these people here are the counterparts to the heroes he has been helping. “The only other one I really met was that rude man from yesterday,” Rihalla whispers back. “The one that wanted to throw me out of the window. But as you wish.”

Ri will observe for a time. The woman named Lily doesn’t seem to be anything special, so she’s probably not a super. Maybe her husband is. Another man here is a doctor of some type, a scientist, so that seems like another probable one. She not sure about the others here. They are such an eclectic group!

Very unsure what to get, Ri will get a little of everything for Dylan. She’ll bring his food and drinks back and forth and try to keep the kids away from him without using her powers. Although it sure is tempting at times!

Putting on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and a pair of flip flops, Cyrus heads down stairs to find his father sitting at the table. “I’m going over Gloria’s for a picnic.” He said grabbing a hat and putting it on so his eyes can barely be seen. “Gloria’s mom is in town, maybe you guys could swing by if you are up for it.” Not waiting for an answer, Cyrus says, “Dunno, when I’ll be home.”

Cyrus will catch a bus toward the Starr building, ‘Can’t wait till I get a car and a license. Lord only knows what died on these seats.’ He thinks to himself.

Taking the elevator up to the penthouse, Cyrus steps out to find Gwen

“Welcome!” Gwen will say with a hug. “So glad that you could come. Some of the other guests have already arrived.”
“Hey, Mrs. Starr.” Stepping into the apartment? “Nice place you have here.” He says nervously. “Is Gloria Around?”

Cyrus will grab himself a coke and make himself comfortable while talking to anyone who is willing.

Afterworking out at the gym for a few hours, Lucas Finally takes a shower and gets cleaned up for the picnic. Putting on a pair of ripped up jeans and a black t Shirt and a pair of dark sunglasses. Lucas feeds his cat then heads to his harley and fires up the engine. Opening it up on the highway weaving this way and that, Lucas thinks about the last few days as well as the coming ‘b’ movie he will be working on.

Pulling into the parking deck, Lucas parks his car and looks around seeing some of the assigned spots filled. ‘Never was one to show up early.’ He thinks to himself as he heads for the elevator.
“Welcome!” Gwen will say with a hug. “So glad that you could come. Some of the other guests have already arrived.”
Letting out a low whistle, Lucas looks around the place then spots Gwen. “Long time no see, Gwen. You look beautiful as always.” He says hugging her back.”

“Pleasure to meet you.” He says when introduced to Jessica and Braden. Looking around he will say his hello’s as two kids go rushing by him chasing each other, “Wow, slow down!” he says as he moves aside to dodge being hit.

Making his way over to the bar he asks for a beer then grabs a plate of a hamburger and some sides. Looking around for a seat everyone seems to be engaged minus a young women sitting by herself enjoying her meal. “Mind if I join you?” he asks as he pulls up a chair, though he will move if asked to. “This was kind of a nice idea.” He says easily, “ I don’t think I had the pleasure,” extending his hand “I’m Lucas and you are?”

You’re not so sure about her companion, Tom Braden. If asked, Jessica will say that he’s “my girl Friday” with a sly smile.

The doorbell rings again and stunning woman with platinum blonde hair wearing a blue-green summer dress is there. She seems nervous and unsure of herself. Gwen goes to greet her and the two chat for a few moments. Gwen then makes an announcement.

“Borrrinnnggg”, Gloria thinks to herself as the guests start to arrive. They are either adults or young kids. Gloria will try to be polite, but being teenager she’s not that good at it yet. Some of these folks seem to fit in, while others are very much out of place.

Gloria will say hello to Lily, as they’ve crossed paths before. Most of the others not so much.

Looking around Gloria sees the woman with the tank top and combat boots and wonders who she is. She’s by herself, so Gloria moves closer.

“Hi, I’m Gloria. Real exciting party, huh?”

Finally, Cyrus arrives and Gloria’s spirits perk up a bit. “You should have said something! I would have come and picked you up. Any excuse to get out of the house and drive my convertible works for me!”

Gloria eats lightly and will sit near Cyrus.

“She’s been waiting impatiently for you to arrive, Cyrus,” Gwen answers with a smile. “I heard about what happened to your father’s place of employment. If he’s interested, I’m sure I could find a place for him in Starr Enterprises.”
Hearing that his girlfriend has been a little impatient makes him feel good inside, Gloria was one of the good things in his life, one worth cherishing. “Luckily he was home when it happened. Not used to seeing him broken down like that. I’ll let him know of your offer, I am sure he will appreciate the gesture.” He says with a smile.

He greets Gloria with a hung and a kiss,
Finally, Cyrus arrives and Gloria’s spirits perk up a bit. “You should have said something! I would have come and picked you up. Any excuse to get out of the house and drive my convertible works for me!”
“It must of slipped my mind.” He said easily, “You could have swung by if you were bored. My mother has been asking me why I don’t take you over more.” He says with a smirk. " Maybe if you would like after the picnic could hand out over at my house?”

Sitting down with Gloria close by calms him down, as he talks with her about everything and anything with her.

“If I could have you attention please, I’d like to introduce you all to Ms. Whitney Parks. She’s a private investigator from Los Angeles and she’s also the newest employee of Starr Enterprises. She’ll be overseeing our investigative division. Let’s give her a warm welcome to San Diego.”

Slipping his hand to grip Gloria’s he listens to the announcement. At first he doesn’t know what to make of it, he begins wondering if she is hear to figure out who is who. Though he still claps lightly as to welcome her to the fold.

“Hello, Krystie, so good you could make it.” Gwen says to Tesla. “I’ve got a project coming up this week that I could use your piloting and electronics skills for. Well talk about it more tomorrow, tonight is for relaxing and catching up.”

"That sounds good," Tesla says, obviously intrigued. "Some new super-secret interstellar jet prototype you need test flown?" she asks jokingly.

Enjoying the gathering even though she's sitting by herself, Tesla soon finds others coming over to chat.

“Hi, I’m Gloria. Real exciting party, huh?”

Seeing that the girl is a teenager and probably being sarcastic, Tesla smiles. "Sure, it's great. I'd rather be busting crooks or speeding down the highway on my motorcycle," she says, "but it's not bad. I'm Krystie, nice to meet you."

A little later on another person sits down nearby. He has that look about him that could be trouble for the wrong girl. Still, it'll make the afternoon a little more interesting.

"And why would I mind if you joined me?" Tesla asks teasingly. "It wasn't a bad idea," she agrees after he sits down. She takes his hand returning a firm handshake. She is careful to keep a tight reign on her electricty lest she accidently jolt Lucas. "I'm Krystie," she'll offer, "but Krys is perfectly fine too."

Tesla will introduce herself when the opportunity arises, but she's not about to get up and leave Lucas or the food for it right at the moment.

Gwen is curious as to who the next arrivals are, but figures it out quickly. “Good to meet you, Dylan. Rihalla? That’s a most unusual name. Please come in. Mingle and enjoy.”
"Thank you for the invitation," Blackout replies graciously. "It was most unexpected but a welcome diversion for the afternoon."
“The only other one I really met was that rude man from yesterday,” Rihalla whispers back. “The one that wanted to throw me out of the window. But as you wish.”
"It was more of an attempt at something fun to mix in with our afternoon," Blackout tries explaining further, "not something to stress you out over. I realize you don't know anyone here. In fact I don't know exactly how many super powered people are part of the team, but I would imagine there are quite a number present."
Very unsure what to get, Ri will get a little of everything for Dylan. She’ll bring his food and drinks back and forth and try to keep the kids away from him without using her powers. Although it sure is tempting at times!
"Good thing I'm hungry," Dylan says lightheartedly. "Thank you very much. They seem to have quite the choices don't they?"

Gargoyle blinks in astonishment as Rackham's voice booms in his ear
“What the hell is that!” Rackham shouts over the headset. “Capture it!"
“YOU KNOW RACKHAM, YOU’RE A REAL HUMANITARIAN!”

With strength surged to +10 Gargoyle reaches for the creature trusting his thick hide to protect him from its stinger.
It's not paranoia when they're really out to get you!

Roll Call: Gargoyle

Down in the underwater section of the Infinity Exports facility, Gargoyle has made a grisly discovery. He found a man secured to the floor by some kind of growth. His belly bulged and then violently exploded, revealing the hideous creature inside! It’s a large, white worm-like creature. It’s ‘head’ ends in six tentacles with a sickly yellow eye in between them. There is a nasty looking stinger at the other end.

Silver Avenger Rackham instructs Gargoyle to capture the beast over the headset.

Gargoyle bends down to the grab the creature when it leaps at him! The thing lashes on to Gargoyle’s arm, it’s six tentacles locking on with a death grip! In spite of its small size the monster’s strength is incredible! It’s tail whips about, repeatedly trying to sting Gargoyle, but failing to penetrate his thick hide. The worm does not make a noise as it thrashes about Gargoyle’s arm, wildly trying to sting its victim into submission.

Now what?
Try it and find out!

Frostbite wrote:Hearing that his girlfriend has been a little impatient makes him feel good inside, Gloria was one of the good things in his life, one worth cherishing. “Luckily he was home when it happened. Not used to seeing him broken down like that. I’ll let him know of your offer, I am sure he will appreciate the gesture.” He says with a smile.
“Having your whole world turned on end can do that you,” Gwen answers sympathetically. “I’m glad nothing bad happened to him.”

“On a different subject, I’m not really sure about your status with the team. But I’m going to be holding a meting tomorrow afternoon. You’re welcomed to attend if you wish.”
Tesla wrote:"That sounds good," Tesla says, obviously intrigued. "Some new super-secret interstellar jet prototype you need test flown?" she asks jokingly.
“Not exactly, but not too far from the mark either,” Gwen says cryptically.
Blackout wrote:"Thank you for the invitation," Blackout replies graciously. "It was most unexpected but a welcome diversion for the afternoon."
“I thought it would be a good idea for all of us to get together and unwind. While I may not have lived through all the things you and the others did, I can sympathize. You were, at least in another reality, part of the team, so you’re welcome here anytime.”

Later on, Gwen will chat with Dylan some more. “I have to admit that I know very little about you and some of the others. Do you have a day job? What sort of plans do you have as far as your professional activities go?”

“You forgot that awesome sweet sixteen party I had?” Gloria says in mock horror.

“I’m just teasing you. I know your mind’s elsewhere with what’s going on with your pop.”

Later one, Gloria will mention to Cyrus that, “Mom wants me to go with her to the Sea Base again tomorrow. I guess she wants to get some more practice in with me before her big secret meeting. You wanna come along? It might be fun to cut loose for a bit.”
Frostbite wrote:Slipping his hand to grip Gloria’s he listens to the announcement. At first he doesn’t know what to make of it, he begins wondering if she is hear to figure out who is who. Though he still claps lightly as to welcome her to the fold.
Gloria has no idea who this woman is, but mom knows so many people it gets hard to keep track of them all. Gloria doesn’t say much of anything, but will at least say hello if the opportunity presents itself.

“Biker chick,” Gloria thinks to herself, trying not to smirk.

“Yeah, that sounds like fun,” Gloria answers diplomatically. “Good to meet you, Krystie.”

“Yes, they do. Quite a nice place they have here. I like the openness of it. I don’t like feeling closed in.”

Goldstar wrote:“Thank you for coming, Lily”, Gwen responds. “I know that it was a last minute thing, but it’s good to see you all again.” Gwen will greet Donny and smile at Rose’s shyness. “Oh he’s adorable!” Gwen will say about Lance and proceed to fuss over the lad like otherwise grown adults tend to do over small children.
"Thank you," Lily replies smiling. "He and Rose continue to brighten our lives."
Goldstar wrote:“I invited Miss Flynn and her companion as I have need of her services next week on a special project of mine. In fact, I think you’ll be able to help as well,” Gwen tells Lily.
"I would be happy to do what I can, though somehow I suspect this will have less to do with my legal skills..."

Lily happily greets Dave along with his guests when they arrive. She introduces her husband Donny and the kids, then proceeds to make small talk until drawn away by the kids. Rose is of an age to play with Sam and Shandra's kids, though Lance is a bit too young.

Not long after, Krystie arrives. Lily waves to her from across the room while corralling a rambunctious Lance. If the younger woman comes over, Lily will make small talk. Most of the members of the Vigilant have met each other in social situations enough times to know each other, though some may have trouble remembering the names of Donny or the kids.

A little later, another couple shows up, introducing themselves as Dylan and Rihalla. Having taken Blackout's form before, she has a pretty good idea who the blind man is, though she didn't know his name and she has no idea who his date is. Still, Lily is friendly and makes certain that she introduces her family to the couple. Lily also has a vague memory of a meeting in a restaurant not long ago, but her memory of the faces is strangely blurry, as though it were a half-remembered dream.

Seeing a teen arrive by himself, Lily suspects that this must the the alter ego of the ice-powered young man whose form she took recently. Walking over, Lily introduces herself. "Hello, I'm Lily Pak, legal counsel to Vigilant Inc. Welcome."
Backlash wrote:“Pleasure to meet you.” He says when introduced to Jessica and Braden. Looking around he will say his hello’s as two kids go rushing by him chasing each other, “Wow, slow down!” he says as he moves aside to dodge being hit.
"Sorry about that, Lucas," Lily says in passing with a wave as she attempts to chase down the running kids. "Nice to see you."
Goldstar wrote:“If I could have you attention please, I’d like to introduce you all to Ms. Whitney Parks. She’s a private investigator from Los Angeles and she’s also the newest employee of Starr Enterprises. She’ll be overseeing our investigative division. Let’s give her a warm welcome to San Diego.”
Lily looks up from her task of feeding the squirming child in her lap, committing the name and face to memory as she has learned to do over her years as a lawyer.
Gloria wrote:Gloria will say hello to Lily, as they’ve crossed paths before. Most of the others not so much.
"Why hello, Gloria. Wonderful to see you again." Lily notes that Gloria makes her way semi-directly over to the young man named Dylan. Young romance, or just age identification, she wonders to herself. He greets her with a hug and a kiss, answering Lily's silent question pretty clearly.

If the opportunity arrises, Lily will greet Ms. Parks and introduce her family. "I serve as legal counsel to Vigilant Inc, so we're likely to be working together. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you with your cases."

So far, Lily still hasn't seen any sign of Sea Guard, which surprises her a bit. If he doesn't show up fairly soon, she'll ask Gwen about it.

In this reality, the Vigilant have been together for quite a while. I'm making the assumption that this is not their first social get-together, so the team members would be familiar with one another outside of their "working clothes". If this isn't the case, let me know and I'll make some edits.

Thanks for the character sheets! Any chance you could add Sea Guard and Dr. Williams?

The causal get together continues.
Lily wrote:If the opportunity arrises, Lily will greet Ms. Parks and introduce her family. "I serve as legal counsel to Vigilant Inc, so we're likely to be working together. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you with your cases."
“Thank you,” Whitney answers. “I’m not exactly sure what my duties are going to be just yet, so we may or may not be working together in the future. Mainly what I did in past for Vigilant Inc was run background checks on perspective employees. Gwen’s generous offer came at a time when I needed a change of scenery in my life. So here I am!”

Not long after that, Sea Guard arrives alone. He’s casually dressed but he’s not really in disguise either, as he doesn’t hide the fact that he is Sea Guard. However, what the general public doesn’t know is that he actually hails from Atlantis itself! Eric, Sea Guard’s name in English, has been out exploring the outside world for many years now. His mother is a surface dweller, so he’s equally at home on land or in the sea.

“Sorry I’m late. I was trying to get ‘Shift to come too, but he’s still worried about that Eldrich guy and wouldn’t leave him alone at the Sea Base. What did I miss?”

The gathering will continue until later in the evening. With the prospect of having to go to work tomorrow, for those who have jobs anyway, many say their goodbyes early.

GM Notes:

With the next post will cover Monday and start Goldstar’s meeting at the Sea Base. Those who need help getting there should arrange transportation. I’m going to be letting you guys with jobs describe your working conditions. Indulge yourselves!

Lily wrote:"I would be happy to do what I can, though somehow I suspect this will have less to do with my legal skills..."
“Where we’re going, you wont find any courtrooms!” Gwen jokes.

After a time, Sea Guard arrives.
Sea Guard wrote:“Sorry I’m late. I was trying to get ‘Shift to come too, but he’s still worried about that Eldrich guy and wouldn’t leave him alone at the Sea Base. What did I miss?”
“Oh, dear,” Gwen mouths. “’Shift is really becoming paranoid. I’ll have to speak to him again. What did you miss? Some good conversation and food. Dig in!”

As the evening winds on, everyone seems to be enjoying themselves. When folks start to go home, Gwen will see them off.

“It was good to see you all. I hope that you enjoyed yourselves. If you need transportation for tomorrows meeting, just let me know. We’ll work out something. Good night.”
