The Guardians have arrived at the Sallavarian Estate just north of Elcadan. This not their first visit here, as the group stayed here on their way to Rennydale many weeks ago. While the main house is expansive, with this many guests doubling up in rooms will be required. There are plenty of servants to handle any tasks that come up and food is plentiful. Edwina, Jallarzi’s pseudodragon familiar, will be her usual pest.
The weakness that plagued Lyonessa passes quickly and she’s her normal self once more. Squire Moonshadow will check up on her after he arrives with the other riders.
“Are you well, milady?” He asks, concern in his voice. “I heard what transpired on the Blackhawk. It took great courage to stand before such a fearsome foe like you did.”
The bodies of Dalliance and Arafel are examined and found to be free from any enchantments or any kind of alterations. They are stored in the basement of the estate for now.
Baron Validar speaks to Duke Relon concerning the former captain of the Blackhawk.
“If we have no method to remove whatever foul enchantments were placed upon him, then yes, by all means have him removed. To do otherwise would just ensure a long and painful march to death. Proceed in this matter, as you see fit.”Validar wrote:"I believe that there is nothing that we can learn from the slaver captain and that he should be punished for his crimes against the Duchy and against the others who he has enslaved. I do not recommend that he is rehabilittable due to the affects of the Devilles. We must be rid of him permanently. The risk otherwise is too great." Unless the Duke disagrees strongly, Validar will have the Captain slain for his crimes and the body burned to prevent his return and future use by the enemy.
The Captain is slain and his body, along with the remains of what was believed to be TiCat and Claudius, are burned to prevent retrieval.
Later that evening, Serena gives a crash course in using a Spell Engine to any mage who attends. Only those who can cast Mage spells, including Bards, can make use of a Spell Engine. The sole exception is Priests of Mystra. Since Mystrans are the followers of the Goddess of Magic, they can also make use of any magic item that otherwise could only be used by Mages. That is how Serena, a non-mage, can make use of the engine.
The process itself is quite simple. The mage touches the engine for a few minutes in order to bond with it. Once bonded, the Engineer can use and control the Spell Engine. The Engineer is made aware of the abilities of the engine, how they are currently being used and what the Engine can do. Once bonded, the Engineer can mentally make adjustments to the engine as they see fit. The Engineer can also cast spells on the engine, giving it more power to operate on. The task of operating the engine takes only minimal concentration, so the mage is free to go and do other things.
