The Blackhawk is now under the control of the Guardians and their allies. Preparations are now underway to use the flying ship to reach the Sallavarian Estate while a smaller group of riders completes the journey on horseback. Sir Corley and his mount are loaded on board and secured on the main deck. The bodies of the fallen Seekers are gathered up, wrapped up in blankets and stored in the cell across from the slaver Captain. Lyonessa sits outside the cell, playing her Singer’s Harp in the hope of breaking whatever spell holds him in the Devilles’ thrall.
Up on deck, many of those who ride either with the Duke or with the High Priests pitch in on the task of operating the Blackhawk’s sails. Sherra guides her charges through the necessary maneuvers from her position at the ship’s wheel.
Once Sherra pronounces that all is ready, Serena begins to apply the power from the Spell Engine. All those on the Blackhawk can already feel the effects of the Spell Engine. The bitterly cold wind is not felt here and the air is actually quite comfortable. Cold weather clothing is not required.
But now a new affect is felt. The ship begins to rise up in near silence. Only the creaking of the ship’s timbers is felt. Once above the tree line, Serena has the ship begin to move forward. Not too fast, as she is not familiar with this area. It is decided to follow the Streel River to the south to the location that Jallarzi mentioned earlier. The Blackhawk slowly turns as Sherra’s charges struggle to keep up with her commands. But the task is eventually completed and now the Streel River flows some 100 feet underneath the ship. While not flying at top speed, the Blackhawk is moving more than twice as fast as the fastest horse. The riders quickly fall from sight as they ride along the Streel Road.

Cereld:
Down in the hold, Lyonessa continues to try and break the hold on the slaver captain, but does not seem to be making any progress.
Up on deck, Jallarzi suddenly speaks up. “He must be under a Geas. A more potent and more difficult to remove kind of charm.”
While Lyonessa plays, the Songstress becomes aware of a tearing sound coming from the bodies in the cell across the way! Two of them are moving and something is clawing its way out of them!
“I pray for that too,” Cereld wistfully responds.Ivy wrote:“I understand,” Ivy answers. “I pray that she is returned to you.”
“A sign of the times we live in,” Cereld answers. “This is the time of heroes and legends.”Chareos wrote:“Aye, for some months. Most of us answered Sherwood’s call when we first met. Now most are spread to the 4 winds: the elves and dwarves are no longer with us. Called by their kin to defend and retake forgotten lands.”
“As I always, I follow the will of Heironeous. He has guided me to this place and to be in a position to ride with old friends once more. I will not refuse the invitation.”Validar wrote:"So it would appear. The Seekers were a force for good and I was disturbed to see them fall apart around me. In truth, it made it much easier to return to Pyris. And now they are nearly complete. I am told that the fallen may be restored to us, should they so choose. Although, while I would not directly deny Claudius return to the living, he will have no place in our Seekers. I am curious as to which of them will wish to join us once more."
“And as for you, friend Cereld. What are your next plans?"

GM Notes
GM Notes:
Serena does not note any evil in the magic items possessed by the mage and the slaver captain. I assume that the captain’s items were removed earlier.
Among the noted locations on the charts and maps, are locations in the Southern Sea known to Sherra. The ports in Cynalon, including Kingsport, Athenos, and Akorros are present. Oos is noted, but it lies much father to the north in the wastelands of Vassa. It is a landlocked location, but there is a small lake beside it. Still other unknown locations are noted in seas that Sherra never sailed.
Now what?

Moving out...
Baron Validar -
“And as for you, friend Cereld. What are your next plans?"
“As I always, I follow the will of Heironeous. He has guided me to this place and to be in a position to ride with old friends once more. I will not refuse the invitation.”
"Very good," Validar says with a smile. "We are pleased to have you amongst us once more. I am certain that the other Seekers will be happy to know that you are not only well, but will be joining our fight against evil. Your presence will be most appreciated."
The captured slaver ship has been readied for departure and those traveling by the flying ship are brought onboard. Sherra commands a small group of volunteers and Validar is on deck, watching the operations to get a better feel for how this will work in the future.
The effect o the Spell Engine is remarkable. Something akin to an invisible version of the magickal mansion spells that Argent and Sherwood have cast in the past. The cold is blocked out as is the wind on deck. In the meantime, a magickal wind fills the ships sails and they depart.
Once the are underway, they soon learn that the magickal harp of the songstress Lyonessa is ineffective in releaseing whatever thrall the Devilles have on the ex-captain of the Blackhawk. Down in the hold, Lyonessa continues to try and break the hold on the slaver captain, but does not seem to be making any progress.
Up on deck, Jallarzi suddenly speaks up. “He must be under a Geas. A more potent and more difficult to remove kind of charm.”
"I have heard the term before. But am not sure of the details," Validar states. "Can you enlighten us further? What does a Geas do? And how would it be circumvented?"
Serena determines that the magick items found on the ship's mage and ex-captain are not evil, so Argent and Chareos will ID them, likely back at Jallarzi's estate. Chareos had volunteered to ride back with the group on horseback and so is not on board the Blackhawk. The ship's mage had it's body burnt before leaving just to be sure the mage did not return from the dead, looking for revenge.
(Sorry I mised the mention of the captain's items in the previous post.)

Ivy:
Ivy will travel to Elcadan by whichever method Sir Acerion chooses, as she wishes to travel with him. So her location is up in the air at the moment, no pun intended.

Argent
Argent:
Much to Argent’s surprise, Chareos will be riding back instead of going on the ship.
“I’m definitely taking the ship! I’m not going to pass up this chance!”
Argent is near Serena as she works the Spell Engine, trying to pick up more clues as to how it operates. She doesn’t really notice the pleasant atmosphere as she has magic items that do that for her. But the flight of something this large is thrilling!
“The idea of being able to take many things with you while traveling is wonderful! I need to get one of these for myself!”
“Of course you can. I figured that I’d be back there tonight, so didn’t bring the books along with me. You’ll have all those new magicks to choose from later.”Chareos wrote:“Fair enough,” he says in reply, “Once we return may I look at your tome, as well?“ he asks curiously.

Serena
Serena:
Serena will report that none of the magic items radiate evil enchantments.
“That seems to be common among your order,” Serena notes. “Scouts of Mystra tend to be loners and we all do show our devotion in our own ways. But there is something to be said for full temple services, especially in those ceremonies where Starflight is invoked. They should be at least tried.”Regnak wrote:“I am not entirely sure. I was never one for services with temple, but perhaps it is time for a change. I will see you at service. If you will excuse me, I must see to what may lie ahead.”
“The Spell Engine only needs to be attached to what it is to control. In this instance they nailed it to the deck. Pull the nails and the engine can be moved. Place it on a new ship and secure. There is a small period of adjustment, but after that it will function normally.”Validar wrote:Validar cocks an eyebrow at the explanation. "You are correct in the estimation that this vessel is far from an ideal choice. However, I was not aware that the process of moving the Spell Engine was a simple one. Certainly a small warship would be the ideal choice. What do we have to do?"

Jallarzi
Jallarzi:
“I have the spell, but never cast it myself,” Jallarzi explains. “It is far more insidious than a charm. The spell doesn’t weaken and fade, it lasts until whatever preset condition is reached. Even worse, those who are under a Geas don’t do as commanded by the spell; they will become very sick and die. So it forces a preset pattern of behavior into the victim. A Dispel isn’t powerful enough to remove it. In fact, no magic I posses can remove it. We may not be able to get this man to talk.”Validar wrote:"I have heard the term before. But am not sure of the details," Validar states. "Can you enlighten us further? What does a Geas do? And how would it be circumvented?"
Edwina! Stop that!
Chareos
As for the gold, Chareos approaches Validar in private and asks about the gold and future desires for land.
“Baron, all of our number are of different walks of life, some from noble families while others search to better themselves the best they can. While I stand by what we have done for our nation, I can’t help but wonder what is in store for us. Some of us call the open road our home, sleeping in rocky plains and forests. It is a good life but not one I wish for myself in my older days, and while we gather riches they are returned to those who need it most, but what about those of us that wish to have more. Land that they has eluded them because of coin or even rank. It is nearly impossible for one such as me to acquire land without the necessary funds. I guess what I am asking is: will we be forgotten or rewarded for our troubles….”
“I thank you for your council in this matter. Also, I was wondering if you would be able to teach me of the long sword at your preference. Otherwise I’ll see the Weapons Master in Elcadan."
Chareos will be ready to ride out when the time comes.
“Enjoy yourself; I think I’ll keep my legs firmly on the ground for now,” he says in reply.Much to Argent’s surprise, Chareos will be riding back instead of going on the ship.

"My friend, I am aware that each of us has earned the right to significant rewards in our tasks. When the time comes that you wish to acquire lands for yourself, I am certain that will be a simple matter. Once the Duchy of the Streel is reclaimed and operating as it should under the realm of Duke Relon, I am certain that a land award is a foregone conclusion to those who desire such. Similarly, the situation in Stone Ridge should produce much the same situation. And failing that, I have it on good word, that Pyris would already be predisposed to rewarding those who have come to her aid," Validar says with a wry smile.
"As for cash, we have not recovered as much as we may have were we nothing more than a simple adventuring band. However, in this case, the gold found is significant and impossible to determine who it would originally belong to. I will have these coins split among the group when we have the time."

Chareos will be ready to ride out when the time comes.
To serve and protect those who cannot.
Acerion
Sir Acerion:
An offer of relief comes Acerion's way, but it isn't directly from Validar. "Thank you for the offer," Acerion tells Kell, "but I would prefer to stay nearby. With more of us around however, it will be that much more protection and an even slimmer chance anyone or anything will get through."
There’s not much for Ivy to do while the ship is being prepared. She’ll stay close to Sir Acerion and it’ll be even more pleasant if he accepts relief. The two talk for a time.
“I must leave for a time once we arrive in Elcadan,” Ivy tells Sir Acerion. “I am told that Mother Boelle is ill and wishes to see me. I must go to her. I will return as soon as possible.”
Acerion would enjoy the chance to have some time alone with Ivy, but duty must come first in this case. Still, there is time to converse and she tells him some grave news.
"Of course, my lady," Acerion replies. "I pray that she is not suffering and that the two of you may find a pleasant time given the circumstances. I will have you in my thoughts every moment you are away."
Acerion will stay near the Duke for the trek to Elcadan. He will speak to both his squire and Ivy as time allows during the trip.

and we're away..
Sherra:
Her patience pays off and soon they are underway with the Streel River beneath them. Sherra marvels at the calmness on the deck and the relative warmth of it. She takes a few moments to gaze out at the scenery and feels the growing longing for a ship of her own, especially one that is not bound merely to the waves.
It is obvious to Sherra that none of her volunteers have any experience with a sailing ship. She remains patient and instructs them as clearly as she knows how. She soon finds herself exhausted and can easily understand why some captains get so frustrated with a green crew! But now a new affect is felt. The ship begins to rise up in near silence. Only the creaking of the ship’s timbers is felt. Once above the tree line, Serena has the ship begin to move forward. Not too fast, as she is not familiar with this area. Ivy
Ivy:
Sir Acerion takes his duties to guard the Duke most seriously and Ivy does her best not to interrupt them. Thus she keeps her time with Sir Acerion to a minimum.
Ivy is noticeably nervous when the ship begins to rise into the air. This is very unfamiliar magic. At least it is noticeably warmer here. Ivy assumes that this is just more magic. She watches in awe as the sailing vessel moves through the sky.

“I am sure that my sisters are doing everything they can to make her comfortable. But alas, when the time comes for the spirit to depart this plane, nothing can prevent it. I fear that Mother Boelle’s time has come. I will return as soon as I am able.”Sir Acerion wrote:"Of course, my lady," Acerion replies. Post Continued:
The Blackhawk is underway! The ship rises up slowly, while Sherra commands her impromptu crew on how to sail a ship. A small course change is made so that the Blackhawk flies over the Streel River towards their destination to the south. The highest structures in Elcadan, the Mage Guild/Temple of Mystra tower and the high tower in the Duke’s castle can just be seen over the horizon.
Down in the ship’s hold, Lyonessa plays her Singer’s Harp in an attempt to charm the captive captain. Thus far her efforts have proven in vain. Lady Sallavarian believes the captain to be under the thrall of a Geas, a more powerful and potent version of a Charm spell. Lyonessa’s sister, Myveria, keeps her company.
All of the sudden there is noise and movement from elsewhere in the hold. The source is under the blankets where the bodies of the former Seekers were being stored. As Lyonessa, Myveria, and the captain watch on in surprise, two of the bodies begin to twitch and move! Claws erupt from the bodies and a pair of hideous creatures being to emerge from the dead bodies!
The pair rise up to their full seven feet in height, their forms changing and enlarging as they go. They resemble giant skeletons that have been covered in dark, form-fitting leather. A single horn emerges from the backs of their heads. They have long, wicked claws that are caked with dirt, blood, and decaying flesh. They stride forward in an odd, almost mechanical gait suggesting a creature that isn’t even remotely human.
Myveria screams at the sudden transformation and cries out, “We need to get out here. Now!”
The former captain will yell, “Get me out of here!”
The commotion attracts the attention of those up on deck. Those who come rushing down will see the monsters emerge from the cell that the bodies were stored in, looking for prey…

Lady Sallavarian believes the captain to be under the thrall of a Geas, a more powerful and potent version of a Charm spell. Lyonessa’s sister, Myveria, keeps her company.
"This doesn't seem to be working," Lyonessa says after a time, "a more powerful charm than I can break, even with the harp, is affecting this man."

"What? What is that?" Lyonessa asks in a shaky voice. She is mortified at the sight.
Myveria screams at the sudden transformation and cries out, “We need to get out here. Now!”
The former captain will yell, “Get me out of here!”
"We can't leave him here," Lyonessa says even though she desperately wants to leave too. "Let me try something."
Exchanging her Harp for her holy symbol, Lyonessa calls upon Mystra's name in an attempt to turn these things. They look like they're undead, but they might just be some hideous monster too.

Ivy:
The sound of a commotion down below reaches Ivy’s ears. She takes her mace in hand and is ready to rush off and see what is going on. But she stops and stays close to Sir Acerion and the Duke.
“Whatever that is, it might be a diversion to lure us away from the Duke.”
While she keeps guard, Ivy will try to detect if there are undead in the area.

Crysania’s battleaxe is in her hands a moment after hearing the shrieks from down below.
“Stay with the Duke!” She calls out as she goes to investigate.
Reaching the hold, Crysania spies two creatures rising out of the supposedly dead bodies!
“DEMONS!”
She notes Lyonessa's attempt to turn the invaders, but doubts that she will succeed, as they are not undead. Rushing forward, Crysania will interpose herself between the demons and Lyonessa and her sister.
“Your stay in our world will not be a long one, demon!”
Crys will attack with her battleaxe.

"What is going on down there?" Sherra asks aloud. There is no way for her to head below decks to investigate. She notices Crysania heads below, and possibly others, but she has to focus on running the ship. The commotion attracts the attention of those up on deck.
Acerion
Sir Acerion:
The sound of a commotion down below reaches Ivy’s ears. She takes her mace in hand and is ready to rush off and see what is going on. But she stops and stays close to Sir Acerion and the Duke.
“Whatever that is, it might be a diversion to lure us away from the Duke.”
"Agreed," Acerion states. He readies his axe, keeping an eye all around them. He wonders if there will ever be a moment's rest where they will all be able to let their guard down one day.

Baron Validar -
Cereld: “And as for you, friend Cereld. What are your next plans?"
“As I always, I follow the will of Heironeous. He has guided me to this place and to be in a position to ride with old friends once more. I will not refuse the invitation.”
"Your presence, as always, is certainly welcome. It will be good to have you among us again."
Argent: “The idea of being able to take many things with you while traveling is wonderful! I need to get one of these for myself!”
"There are many advantages in this mode of transportation. The lack of ambush, the secrecy it can afford, the swiftness of movement, the ability to go where horses may not. Such a find would benefit us greatly in our efforts," Validar says.
Serena: Validar cocks an eyebrow at the explanation. "You are correct in the estimation that this vessel is far from an ideal choice. However, I was not aware that the process of moving the Spell Engine was a simple one. Certainly a small warship would be the ideal choice. What do we have to do?"
“The Spell Engine only needs to be attached to what it is to control. In this instance they nailed it to the deck. Pull the nails and the engine can be moved. Place it on a new ship and secure. There is a small period of adjustment, but after that it will function normally.”
"I had not imagined it would be so simple. The trouble is that such a means is also able to be replicated by others. Is there a more secure way of securing a Spell Engine to a ship's hull?" Validar will ask.
Jallarzi: "I have heard the term before. But am not sure of the details," Validar states. "Can you enlighten us further? What does a Geas do? And how would it be circumvented?"
We may not be able to get this man to talk.”
"I see," Validar says, disappointedly. "The hags expected, or at least planned for, these slavers to get caught. If we cannot remove it and we cannot get him to speak to us, then he is of no use to us. I find it hard to allow him to live, given his crimes, but will consult the Duke as to his council as well. I do not feel it wise to allow someone who attempted to capture the Duke to possibly do so again. He is either a traitor or an assassin and deserves his fate."
Chareos: “I thank you for your council in this matter. Also, I was wondering if you would be able to teach me of the long sword at your preference. Otherwise I’ll see the Weapons Master in Elcadan."
"Provided there is sufficient time," Validar explains, "I would certainly teach you of the use of the longsword. It is a beautiful weapon. One which I have dedicated my life to mastering."
Validar hears shouting coming from below deck, including a man's voice. Perhaps the captain has had his tongue freed. Listening closer, the voices are tinged with fear.

Post Continued:
The riders watch as the Blackhawk flies off. It changes course slightly, heading to the west. Once over the Streel River, it heads south. The ship accelerates quickly and is soon lost from sight.
“Amazing…” Squire Moonshadow utters.
At Lady Rachel’s command, the riders urge their mounts forward on the ride to the Sallavarian Estate. Rek rides near the front with Chareos in the middle of the pack. The ride has been uneventful thus far.
In the hold of the Blackhawk, Lyonessa plays her Singer’s Harp in an attempt to break the charm on the captain.
Tearing is heard from the wrapped up bodies of the former Seekers. Something is clawing its way out of two of them! Hideous creatures with tight dark leathery skin erupt from the dead bodies! Myveria shouts that they must leave the hold.
“Lyonessa! What is wrong?”
Before the demons can get any closer, Baron Validar rushes in from seemingly out of nowhere. Crysania is right behind him. The Baron lashes out twice with his Warblade, rending the flesh of the monster before him. Crysania likewise chops into the enemy with her battleaxe. From back near the top of the stairs, Argent fires a barrage of Magic Missiles at one of the creatures. They simply fizzle out upon nearing their target.
The demons strike with their long claws. Validar’s armor saves him from any damage, but Crysania is struck. Validar attacks again and with his second thrust the demon is slain. It staggers back and then vanishes in a puff of sulfur. Crysania connects once more, but the demon still stands. Argent casts another round of Magic Missiles and this time they reach the target. The demon vanishes in a puff of sulfur after the missiles strike him.
The danger seems to have passed.

In the hold of the Blackhawk, Lyonessa plays her Singer’s Harp in an attempt to break the charm on the captain.
“I have heard of other more potent forms of charms before,” Myveria comments. “But I have yet to come across such spells myself.”Lyonessa wrote:"This doesn't seem to be working," Lyonessa says after a time, "a more powerful charm than I can break, even with the harp, is affecting this man."
Tearing is heard from the wrapped up bodies of the former Seekers. Something is clawing its way out of two of them! Hideous creatures with tight dark leathery skin erupt from the dead bodies! Myveria shouts that they must leave the hold.
The Songstress boldly presents her Holy Symbol, a circlet featuring seven blue and white stars. As she makes her attempt, Lyonessa cannot help but notice the creatures' red glowing eyes. There is something about those eyes that makes Lyonessa weak in the knees, as if her strength was being drained away. Lyonessa's legs give out and she starts to fall, but Myveria catches her.Lyonessa wrote:"We can't leave him here," Lyonessa says even though she desperately wants to leave too. "Let me try something."
Exchanging her Harp for her holy symbol, Lyonessa calls upon Mystra's name in an attempt to turn these things. They look like they're undead, but they might just be some hideous monster too.

Not too long after that short battle, the Blackhawk reaches the place indicated by Jallarzi. Here water is funneled away from the Streel to the fields of the Sallavarian Estate. Serena slows the ship down until it is hovering and then lowers it onto the surface of the Streel. Some ice cracks underneath the ship, but it isn’t thick enough to do any damage. Lines are thrown ashore and the ship’s anchor is lowered. The Blackhawk has landed! It’s a short walk to the Sallavarian Estate from here; the main house is within visual range.
The weakness that affected Lyonessa some fades. The Songstress realizes that the affect was much like a Ray of Enfeeblement, a spell that she has knowledge of.
It is determined that the bodies of Arafel and Dalliance are the ones that remain intact. Very little remains of the bodies that the demons came out of. What remains can no longer be restored to life. There’s simply not enough of the body left. In fact, you can’t even tell if the remains are those of TiCat and Claudius any more. You can’t help but eye the bodies of the women, wondering if some other sort of evil lies within them waiting to awaken.
The Duke and High Priests with him depart the Blackhawk and cover the short distance to the Sallavarian Estate. As the group draws close to the main house, the doors open and several people come forth to greet the new arrivals. The Duchess and Lady Gabriella are among them. A woman in chainmail stays close to the Duchess.
A hot meal is waiting to be had and the Duke, Duchess, and the priests will converse for a bit longer. Finally, the priests and their entourage will depart for the city. Before leaving, a few of them will have words with those priests of their faith.
Warton will approach Sir Acerion. “I realize that your current duty takes precedence, but I would like you to visit the temple when you are able. The stories of your exploits are a great inspiration to our acolytes. To hear them from your own lips would just further inspire the men.”
Galfrey Kaarne speaks to Lyonessa. “Well met, Songstress. Tales of your exploits and musical renderings have reached our ears. I would be honored if you could join us for our devotions when you are able. We all look forward to hearing you play.” Galfrey will extend the invitation to join Mystran services to all the mages in the group. Unlike any other church, members of the temple hierarchy do not have to be priests, just have the ability to cast spells. Jallarzi is a high-ranking official in the Mystran Temple in Elcadan, for instance.
The riders arrive not long after that, just as darkness is beginning to fall. Their trip was uneventful. Those who rode with the Duke settle in for the night at the Sallavarian Estate, while those who accompanied the priests return to town. The night passes peacefully, but tomorrow will be yet another busy day. The Duke will arrive in Elcadan!

GM Notes
GM Notes:
Lots to discuss, I would imagine.
Jallarzi will say that the Estate is a safe environment for the Duke and Duchess. Her ancestors magically fortified the estate for their protection. A permanent form of Protection From Evil exists along with many other enchantments. While not a true fortress, in the terms of magical protections, it is a fortress. You will be safe here.
Are you going to leave the Blackhawk’s former captain and Sir Corley’s statue on the ship? Are you going to post guards on the Blackhawk? Is everyone staying at the Estate tonight? What are you going to do with the bodies of Dalliance and Arafel?
XP’s have been updated in the private area.
Now what?

A baron's work is never done...
Baron Validar of Pyris -
Things never seem to settle down. There is a commotion in the hold and demons are discovered there. Validar, Crysania and Argent manage to finish off the monstrosities, but Crysania is wounded by them.
"Is such a wound a concern?" Validar will ask. "Everything about these enemies seems insidious." Validar will cast a glance at the dead bodies that remain.
"Obviously, their use of the dead Seekers as zombies was more than simply emotional or as part of the ambush," Validar will say while examining the remains. "The bodies of Tiger-Cat and Claudius have little that remains. We must inspect and scan the remaining two bodies to determine if there are any more surprises awaiting us."
Validar will speak with the Duke on the remaining time back to Jallarzi's estate. He will also have Sir Acerion take a break from his guarding of the Duke and allow him some rest, with the other paladin available now.
"I believe that there is nothing that we can learn from the slaver captain and that he should be punished for his crimes against the Duchy and against the others who he has enslaved. I do not recommend that he is rehabilitatable due to the affects of the Devilles. We must be rid of him permanently. The risk otherwise is too great." Unless the Duke disagrees strongly, Validar will have the Captain slain for his crimes and the body burned to prevent his return and future use by the enemy.
Validar will have Crysania, Cereld and Ivy do whatever priestly detections they can do on the bodies of Arafel and Dalliance, perhaps with some assistance from the other priests onboard. There seems to be no end to the Devilles' tricks and traps. "We must be careful on our entrance to the castle and use of anything that could be trapped. There could be any number of surprises left behind."
Validar will also ask if there is some way to determine if these are indeed the bodies of the Seekers, or simply made to look like them. In any case, he will have the final remains burned to be certain.
Validar will warmly greet the Duchess, his mother, as well as his beloved, the lady Gabriella. "I am pleased to see that you are safe. It will be good to be together this evening."
Validar will ask Jallarzi what she knows about Castle Elcadan. Obviously, there was no such defenses as she has at her estate else the demons could never have entered. Also what does it take to enact such defenses?
I would prefer to move Corley in to the estate if possible. Slaver captain is dealt with as above. Everyone should be staying at the estate tonight. I would like a messenger sent to the Seekers however, letting them know that we will be arriving tomorrow. The bodies of Arafel and Dalliance will be taken to the estate if they do no detect as evil or magickal and a Speak with Dead can be performed.

Argent
Argent:
After learning about the gold disbursal, Argent will thank Validar for the coins. “I’m sure I can find something to buy with these.”
Argent peaks into the hold and sees the demonic-looking creatures with their glowing red eyes. She won’t get any closer, but will cast Magic Missile at the fiend. Unfortunately, her spell fizzles without doing any damage.
“I hate magic resistance!” Argent complains.
The next flurry is more effective and the demon is dispatched. With that threat taken care of, Argent returns to watching as the Blackhawk reaches its destination and lands. Once it is done she’ll say to Serena, “I would like to learn how to work this device for future reference.”
Later the high priest of Mystra makes his rounds and invites Argent to attend their devotions at the temple. “I would be delighted to attend in the new few days. I wish to visit the guild anyway.”
The riders show up along with Chareos.
“I trust your ride was a pleasant one. We had a bit of excitement, but nothing we couldn’t handle.”
Argent will turn over the 5th level spell book to Chareos. She’ll otherwise retire early to examine the spell book from the ship.

I am an Invoker of no small power.
Ivy
Ivy:
Ivy hears the sound of battle, but holds her position. It ends quickly. Only then will Ivy move closer. It seems that Crysania was wounded. Restoring her mace, Ivy will move closer.
“Let me heal that for you, Crysania.”
The priestess listens with concern as it is explained that the invaders came from within the bodies recovered!
Ivy pauses, choosing her words very carefully. “It might be best to burn those bodies as soon as possible like I mentioned before. Whatever evil was done to these other bodies could have just as easily been done to them too. We could facing more attackers by allowing them to remain.”
“I examined the bodies after the battle and they were not undead at that time. Nor are they now.”
Once the ship has landed and we are ready to depart, Ivy will go with Elspeth, but not before exchanging words with Validar.
“I must return to my temple right away. Elspeth has informed me that Mother Boelle is ill and we fear she is near death. She wishes to see me, so I must go. I will return when I am able.”
After saying her goodbyes to Sir Acerion, Ivy will retrieve a horse from the stable and ride into Elcadan with Elspeth.

For the glory of the Blue Lady!
Crysania
Crysania:
The fight ends quickly. The Baron more than holds his own, even in his weakened condition, and Argent uses her magic to remove the last demon.
Crysania eyes the bodies for a moment, mulling over the words that were spoken. “There is wisdom to your words, Ivy of Azrella. What you suggest is the logical thing to do. But our enemy is not one that is logical. No, they do not seek to kill us, but rather thrive on causing anguish and torment. It seems to me that there is nothing wrong with the bodies of these women. What the Devilles would have us believe is that there is something wrong and burn them to prevent an evil from being unleashed. Imagine the anguish felt by those who did that, only to later learn that there was nothing wrong with them. To my mind, that was their plan here. To cause us to needlessly and permanently extinguish their flames for no good reason and then torment us with that fact.”
Turning away from the bodies, Crysania will see if Lyonessa is well. She seems weak and unable to stand. “Are you well Lyonessa of Mystra? Do you need assistance?”
Crys will accept Ivy's generous offer of healing.
Later Crysania will stay at the Salavarian Estate to help guard the Duke. She will see if any of the other followers of Heironeous present wish to join her for evening devotions.
The fight ends quickly. The Baron more than holds his own, even in his weakened condition, and Argent uses her magic to remove the last demon.
“Possibly,” Crysania answers. “I think these creatures were Babaus, a type of demon skilled at stealth and assassination. What kind of sick mind would conceive of placing such a thing inside the body of another?”Validar wrote:"Is such a wound a concern," Validar will ask. Serena:
“I suppose one such as this could be secured to the deck. Perhaps with chains and locks magically sealed.”
Whatever trouble there was down below is resolved. Our landing location is approached and Serena slows and then lowers the ship down to the waters below.
Serena will assure Galfrey that she will attend temple services as often as she can.
“There is no reason for the Spell Engine to even be on the main deck out in the open,” Serena explains. “Most Alphatian ships have a special chamber for them below deck where they are stored. That helps with security a great deal. Once bonded to the engine, the Engineer doesn’t have to be right next to it all the time. There is a limited range, but it is usually large enough to cover anywhere on the ship. So the engines could be placed down in the hold while the Engineer was up on deck controlling it.”Validar wrote:"I had not imagined it would be so simple. The trouble is that such a means is also able to be replicated by others. Is there a more secure way of securing a Spell Engine to a ship's hull?" Validar will ask.

“As for the castle, I cannot say. Looking back, I can say that it was around twenty years ago when the change in the rulers of Elcadan occurred. That was when they withdrew from appearing in public frequently. I haven’t spent much time in the castle, but there are somethings that I do know.”
“The ground level was used for entertaining guests. There is a grand ballroom and the Duke’s audience chamber. The Duke and his family's bedchambers are on the second level. Guest rooms were on the third. The kitchen was in the basement of the castle.”
“I am unsure just what defenses were built into the castle. Remember, Elcadan was originally built by the survivors of Old Elcadan before Cynalon was even founded. Its builders were most likely Alphatians and they might have but their own unique defenses into place. Whether these defenses are still around just waiting to be used, or have long since vanished, remains a mystery.”
“I am told that the castle was grand in its day. Both the ballroom and duke’s audience chamber were two stories high. It will be wonderful to see it restored.”
Jallarzi will do what she can to make her guests comfortable for the evening.
“I do not believe that they planned for them to be caught so much,” Jallarzi surmises, “but rather to safeguard against being betrayed by them. What better servant than one who must obey or die a horrible death? As long as he worked to their benefit, he would live.”Validar wrote:"I see," Validar says, disappointedly.
“The family estate was constructed by my ancestors, all of whom were spellcasters of great power. They ensured that their home would be protected by placing several permanent enchantments on it. They also secured it from intrusion by ethereal creatures among other things.”Validar wrote:Validar will ask Jallarzi what she knows about Castle Elcadan. Obviously, there were no such defenses as she has at her estate else the demons could never have entered. Also what does it take to enact such defenses?

“It was uneventful and boring without you.” He says evenly as he dismounts and approached Argent giving her a hug and a kiss hello. “What kind of excitement?” he asks as his brow raises curiously.“I trust your ride was a pleasant one. We had a bit of excitement, but nothing we couldn’t handle.”
“Thank you, I have been looking forward to exploring its pages for some time,” he says evenly. “May I see you later tonight?” he asks curiously as he holds the tome in his hands.Argent will turn over the 5th level spell book to Chareos. She’ll otherwise retire early to examine the spell book from the ship.
Chareos will graciously accept the gold Validar has offers him.Validar will have 500gp given to each of the Guardians and their associates (should they not decline it) and 100gp given to each of the New Seekers when they meet up. Another 1500gp will be set aside to compensate the families of the soldiers who were killed on this mission. The remainder will be held in group funds and used towards outfitting a new ship to move the Spell Engine from the Blackhawk.
“I look forward to it. I thank you for your time Baron,” he says with a smirk. “Or should I call you master.” Later on Chareos will make time to practice with his Frostbrand then read over the tome that Argent had lent to him. When he hears about Sir Corley’s statue to be moved Chareos goes to help move his companion with his added strength."Provided there is sufficient time," Validar explains, "I would certainly teach you of the use of the longsword. It is a beautiful weapon. One which I have dedicated my life to mastering."

Baron Validar -
After learning about the gold disbursal, Argent will thank Validar for the coins. “I’m sure I can find something to buy with these.”
"It is but a meager sum compared to the value that each of us has contributed to the Kingdom and the new Duchy. Still, as you say, it good to have money available to use as your whim desires."
---------------------------------
"I had not imagined it would be so simple. The trouble is that such a means is also able to be replicated by others. Is there a more secure way of securing a Spell Engine to a ship's hull?" Validar will ask.
“There is no reason for the Spell Engine to even be on the main deck out in the open,” Serena explains. “Most Alphatian ships have a special chamber for them below deck where they are stored. “I suppose one such as this could be secured to the deck. Perhaps with chains and locks magically sealed.”
"That is an option. We will see what present itself when we are ready to move this to another vessel. As you say, this is not the one I wish to have at our disposal for long."
---------------------------------------------------
“I do not believe that they planned for them to be caught so much,” Jallarzi surmises, “but rather to safeguard against being betrayed by them. What better servant than one who must obey or die a horrible death? As long as he worked to their benefit, he would live.”
"You may be right in that, cousin," Validar states. "In either case, the result is the same. And I must admit that I am becoming slightly paranoid by the overall situation. We must be vigilant against all possibilities of attack, both mental and physical. These Devilles are truly demonic."
-----------------------------------------
When the ship touches down near the Sallavarian Estate, Validar will catch Sherra in passing as she readies the ship for docking.
"Well done, Admiral," he says with a wry grin and a brief hand to her shoulder.
---------------------------------------------------
"Is such a wound a concern," Validar will ask. "Everything about these enemies seems insidious." Validar will cast a glance at the dead bodies that remain.
“Possibly,” Crysania answers. “I think these creatures were Babaus, a type of demon skilled at stealth and assassination. What kind of sick mind would conceive of placing such a thing inside the body of another?”
"And in that statement you have identified the struggle that we face. We do not face ones bent on our death or destruction, although they would likely take that option now with unholy glee. They are sick and twisted and we have to be prepared for nearly anything that may happen to us, but more concern to our friends and families. They will try to strike at us through those we love. That is why we must destroy them for all time."
------------------------------------
Ivy pauses, choosing her words very carefully.
Validar turns towards Ivy and stops himself from his initial statement. Obviously the priestess does not know these people, or rather who they were. To Validar, there is more here than simply a case of whether they will be attacked again. Once more, he finds it odd that he and Ivy are of such varying opinions. They never seem to agree on anything philosophical. Fortunately, Crysania speaks up.
"I agree. These people were friends of mine and of the other Seekers as well. We owe it to them to seek their recovery, should they wish it, just as we would do the same for any of the Guardians. The risk of physical danger to us is not at issue so much as knowing the truth and doing what we can to bring life back to our friends." Every step that the Devilles take just strengthens the baron's resolve. He will see them defeated and destroyed for all time, even if he has to go to the Abyss alone to do so.
---------------------------------------
Once the ship has landed and we are ready to depart, Ivy will go with Elspeth, but not before exchanging words with Validar.
“I must return to my temple right away. Elspeth has informed me that Mother Boelle is ill and we fear she is near death. She wishes to see me, so I must go. I will return when I am able.”
"Understood, Ivy of Azrella. It is an important moment. We will see you when we see you. " Validar will have several guards sent along to accompany them to the city walls, just to be safe.
---------------------------------
Jallarzi tells about the castle and her estate. Their predecessors were quite powerful and as she notes, Elcadan Castle was built before Cynalon even existed. They will have to learn much as only the basics are known.
"It will indeed be glorious to see the castle and all of the area restored. The Duchy of the Streel and New Elcadan will be a jewel in the Kingdom's crown. But we have much work ahead of us before that day will be witnessed."
Validar will ask Jallarzi's permission for Lady Gabriella to remain here at the estate. He is not certain of the risks and dangers they will face when they ride into Elcadan, but it will be better if she is not put in peril. There will be plenty of time for formalities later.
Validar will also suggest that the Duchess remain here for the moment as well. No reason to court trouble unnecessarily. They could always be escorted in or even teleported when the castle is suitably and safely recovered.
Assuming she agrees, Validar will have dinner with Lady Gabriella and will of course use their code words in greeting. "It is good to see you again, my love. We have made strides toward our goal, but danger still remains. I have asked my cousin for you and the Duchess to stay here as guests of the Estate, until we are certain that the castle in Elcadan is safe. Our initial foray may involve battle or worse, some insidious trick or trap left by the Devilles. The Duke will need your skills soon enough, but for now I could not forgive myself if any harm came to you."
Validar will spend as much time as possible with Gabriella as they are leaving in the morning again. They will walk the grounds of the estate arm-in-arm for awhile, then retire to some private conversation before Validar turns in for the night. He will be up early in the morning to prepare for their march on Elcadan.

“Since it appears that we’re going to be in Elcadan for a time, I thought we’d have supper out one evening. The Lower Falls Inn has the reputation of the finest eating establishment in all of Elcadan. I could never afford to go there when I was an apprentice, but now I can.”
Later in the evening, Argent will seek out Baron Validar. “I am curious as to the riding arrangements for tomorrow and whether I am to be on horseback or in a carriage. I wish to dress appropriately for the occasion.” Meaning that she’ll have one of her finest dresses on in a carriage or her adventurer attire on horseback.
“Coins haven’t been a concern for me for a while now. I was well compensated for my endeavors before joining your band. These days I look out more for jewelry, magic items, and even better enchanted jewelry. But there is always a use for money now and in the future. I’ve been contemplating acquiring my own place. “I do tend to brighten up a room, don’t I?” Argent answers with an amused look on her face. She returns Chareos’ affections. “Oh, not much. A couple of demons popped up out of those dead bodies, but they were quickly dispatched. Nothing too serious.”Chareos wrote:“It was uneventful and boring without you.” He says evenly as he dismounts and approached Argent giving her a hug and a kiss hello. “What kind of excitement?” he asks as his brow raises curiously.

We cannot be certain that it will go smoothly and without incident. Again, it may be wise to have bodies in the carriages to make it appear as though we have nothing to fear. We can then draw out any further ambushes."
"Hopefully, the Devilles will not try their same trick again, but we cannot be certain. You and Lyonessa and Myveria will ride in the Duchess' place. Therefore, you are welcome to dress as you see fit for such an entrance."
"We may need you to teleport the Duchess and Lady Allonica into Castle Elcadan later in the day tomorrow, depending on what occurs. Please have that spell available."
---------------------------------------------
Crysania: “In that, we are in agreement, Validar. This whole venture has already been too costly in terms of loss of life. I fear it will only get worse when they actually do start trying to slay us and those around us.”
Validar's brow furrows at the thought. "I hope you are wrong, Crysania of Heironeous. I hope we are able to strike at them soon and deliver a telling blow, which turns the tide in this campaign and moves us from being on the defensive to being on the offensive. I do not relish a drawn-out struggle with these vile vermin which causes us to constantly look over our shoulder and forever be unable to trust anything."
"Our soldiers have valiantly given their lives for their baron and their duke. Many civilians have done so as well and their sacrifices must not be in vain. We must be careful of those we care for now and we must soon take the battle to the enemy."
---------------------------------------------------
Jallarzi: “When I was a child, we visited the castle upon occasion. I can’t help but recall how grand and large it was, no doubt partially due to my smaller stature. Who can say what shape it is in now.”
"Indeed. Come tomorrow, we will start to have more questions answered and likely more new questions take their place," Validar says with a hint of irony in his voice.
Validar will ask Jallarzi's permission for Lady Gabriella to remain here at the estate. He is not certain of the risks and dangers they will face when they ride into Elcadan, but it will be better if she is not put in peril. There will be plenty of time for formalities later.
“But of course. My home is your home during these dark times.”
"My sincerest thanks, Lady Sallavarian," Validar responds. "Already I am concerned for contingencies that may arise in our claiming the castle. Reclaiming Elcadan fully may prove to be more time-consuming than we imagine. I hope that I am wrong."
“Oh, and I would suggest not moving Sir Corley at this time. His statue is secured to the deck of the Blackhawk. In attempting to move it, we risk damaging it. I’ll restore him in the morning.”
"Very well. You are the expert here. My concern is that the ship is not within your estate's protection and could easily be taken away. Sir Corley is my best friend and in a vulnerable position. I would not wish to see that position taken advantage of."
Validar will have a guard duty set up around the ship and have his squires handle the task of maintaining the watch.
----------------------------------------
Gabriella: After much waiting, the Duke and his entourage finally arrive at the Sallavarian Estate. After donning a coat to protect against the cold, Gabriella rushes outside to greet them. Much to her surprise, they do not approach from the road nor are they on horseback.
As the group covers the distance between the Blackhawk and the Sallavarian Estate, they arrive and soon Validar sees a familiar face rushing out into the cold. He breaks into a quick pace as well and takes Gabriella in his arms and gives her a lingering kiss.
"I am pleased to see that you are safe. It will be good to be together this evening."
“I am glad that you’ve arrived, although where are your mounts? I do not see them anywhere.”
"They will be along soon. Our final leg of the journey and arrival here at the Sallavarian Estate was by ship," Validar explains. "And a flying ship at that. I will explain more about that when things have settled down a bit."
“If you think that is for the best, Validar, then I will agree. As you say, my skills won’t be needed on the ride in, although perhaps they will be later on in the day.”
"That is very true. One of the mages should be able to transport you and the Duchess to Elcadan rapidly when the time is right. I am not certain of the activities tomorrow. Some of that will be determined by how the Duke's arrival goes and what we face from the enemy. This is an uncertain moment and one which we must be ready for anything."
“I spoke to my brother Khalid yesterday,” Gabriella will say as they walk. “He has invited us to an evening’s repast when we are able. He is eager to meet you and the new Duke. I am told that the meal will be in the tradition of our Zakharian roots. It should be a pleasant evening. I’ll have to see if I can find an aba that will fit you.”
Validar is slightly concerned about the first part of her statement. "I did not know you had time to make contact with your family here in Elcadan. Did you travel into town unescorted? In these transitional times, I am not certain that was the wisest of decisions, even with your considerable skills."
"In any case, it will be most enjoyable to meet your family here. What pray tell is an aba?"
Argent: “Coins haven’t been a concern for me for a while now. I was well compensated for my endeavors before joining your band. These days I look out more for jewelry, magic items, and even better enchanted jewelry. But there is always a use for money now and in the future. I’ve been contemplating acquiring my own place. Living out of inns and as a guest is fine, but nothing I wish to do for the rest of my life.”
"Chareos has recently expressed similar thoughts. The life of an adventurer eventually claims one or draws one to settle, at least somewhat. I suppose it is a function of having significant successes. It is difficult to not have a place to call home, I would suspect."
"As for the monetary compensation, I am pleased that it is not necessary, but I cannot expect everyone to be completely altruistic. Our goals are lofty and our plans are world-changing. And in the end, the rewards will be significant."
---------------------------------------
Later in the evening, Argent will seek out Baron Validar. “I am curious as to the riding arrangements for tomorrow and whether I am to be on horseback or in a carriage. I wish to dress appropriately for the occasion.” Meaning that she’ll have one of her finest dresses on in a carriage or her adventurer attire on horseback.
"The duchess and other non-military individuals will remain here at the Sallavarian Estate during our initial entrance into Elcadan. Conversations...
Baron Validar -
“Oh he did, did he?” Argent responds in mild surprise. “I see. Yes, at some point one has to put down roots and have a place to put your belongings.”
"I imagine that all of us have a desire for such a grounding, except perhaps for those who follow the teachings of Celestian. And certainly if yo continue to amass wealth a jewels, you will certainly need someplace to store them all. I would be pleased if you would consider a residence within Pyris, or at the least within the Streel Duchy proper. I am certain that the land grant will be easy to procure," he says with a smile.
“Make no mistake, I’ll happily accept any coins that come my way. While we may not have gained any great treasure, the magic items and spells that I’ve gained more than make up for it.”
Validar smiles again at the comment. "I am sure that there will be more magic and more knowledge to come. We have many ancient and fallen places to reclaim: Akorros, Stone Ridge, old Elcadan... not to mention what we may find here in the castle of the duke."
"Our ancestors seem to have a wealth of knowledge and power that has not been seen in recent generations. It is my goal, among many, to see that changed with our current heroes. I hope that you will be among us for the complete journey."
"We may need you to teleport the Duchess and Lady Allonica into Castle Elcadan later in the day tomorrow, depending on what occurs. Please have that spell available."
“I’ll have several available tomorrow, along with my usual selection of combat spells. If you’ll excuse me, I must prepare for tomorrow.”
"Indeed. There is much to prepare for tomorrow. Thank you for your assistance. Sleep well, Argent."

“A flying ship,” Gabriella repeats in surprise. “I sense that there is a story here. Is it a nice ship?”
"Indeed there is a story. There is always a story with the lives we lead. They are not tame and they are not boring, but I would not have it any other way."
"As for the ship, it is of ill repute and of ill maintenance. We will have to move the mechanism that allows it to fly to a more desireable vessel."
“Not to worry, beloved,” Gabriella says in a soothing voice. “You know I have my ways of getting about. There was no danger.”
"Indeed I do. However, now we must be even more careful. Our defiance to the Devilles may soon result in their attempts to slay us and our loved ones rather than seek to cause pain, misery and suffering. We managed to banish one of the hags, but I believe I may have initiated a particularly strong emnity in this one due to our most recent encounter." Validar will be certain NOT to mention the fact that they perceived him to be dead after that fight.

Conquer or Die!
Lyonessa:
The Songstress boldly presents her Holy Symbol, a circlet featuring seven blue and white stars. As she makes her attempt, Lyonessa cannot help but notice the creatures' red glowing eyes. There is something about those eyes that makes Lyonessa weak in the knees, as if her strength was being drained away. Lyonessa's legs give out and she starts to fall, but Myveria catches her.
“Lyonessa! What is wrong?”
Turning away from the bodies, Crysania will see if Lyonessa is well. She seems weak and unable to stand. “Are you well Lyonessa of Mystra? Do you need assistance?”
Before Lyonessa can attempt to turn such a horror its eyes lock on to hers. She feels suddenly weaker and collapes if not for her sister. Several questions come to her as she struggles to remain upright.
"I do not know," Lyonessa says shakily, "I'm suddenly weaker. Some sort of drain I would imagine. I hope it doesn't get any worse."
The weakness that affected Lyonessa some fades. The Songstress realizes that the affect was much like a Ray of Enfeeblement, a spell that she has knowledge of.
"I am glad it is passing," Lyonessa says to her sister as she starts feeling better. "I believe it was much like a Ray of Enfeeblement, and not a pleasant experience."
Thankfully now they're someplace safe. Lyonessa will help if she can, but for the most part it seems things are being taken care of. She will be approached later in the evening.
Galfrey Kaarne speaks to Lyonessa. “Well met, Songstress. Tales of your exploits and musical renderings have reached our ears. I would be honored if you could join us for our devotions when you are able. We all look forward to hearing you play.”
"Well thank you," Lyonessa replies smiling, hiding her surprise. "The honor would be mine to play for you and all interested." She had no idea word had reached so far of her ballads and songs. She will have to put the finishing touches on her newer ones before she plays for such an audience.
“Oh, and I would suggest not moving Sir Corley at this time. His statue is secured to the deck of the Blackhawk. In attempting to move it, we risk damaging it. I’ll restore him in the morning.”

Validar will have a guard duty set up around the ship and have his squires handle the task of maintaining the watch.
"Do you wish me to have Dusk act as another set of eyes this night?" Lyonessa will ask Validar. "Sometimes guards can be tricked or avoided." If he wants her to, she will inform Dusk to keep an eye on the ship and anyone who doesn't belong while he hunts that night.
"Hopefully, the Devilles will not try their same trick again, but we cannot be certain. You and Lyonessa and Myveria will ride in the Duchess' place. Therefore, you are welcome to dress as you see fit for such an entrance."
Once Lyonessa learns of this, she will inform her sister and make sure she has something suitable to wear herself.

My voice, my will, my magic - three blessings bestowed by Mystra that spell your doom
