Eternal Vigilance #76 - "Independence Day"

It’s been July 4th for what seems, like forever. But that is about to change, one-way or the other. The heroes are battling their enemies on two fronts…

Roll Call: Goldstar, Flux, Blackout, Lavender, Tesla, Changeling, Stargirl, Frostbite, & Karma with Purple Phlox (both), Powershift, Gem, Quazar, Quazon, Hardware, Nemesis, & Bedrock vs. Star Emperor, Reflux, Dark Angel, Dark Tesla, Kumiho, Star Prince, Ice Queen, Backlash, Twisterella & Spinner.

The situation in the Infinity Core has changed dramatically! The Unity Device, the machine that’s holding the twelve dimensions together, can now be affected by the enemy! Even stranger, it is now intangible to Goldstar all those from her dimension! Seeing this, many of the evil twins move to destroy the machine, while others are still locked in combat.

Hovering overhead, Tesla generates a cage of electricity and settles it around the downed Spinner. The evil version of Tesla fires another blast at Gem, knocking her back. Completely unnoticed, a teleportation hole opens over evil Tesla’s head. Blackout’s rod is thrown out of it and it strikes her right on the top of the head! The force of the impact makes evil Tesla woozy and she begins to sink to the Infinity Core floor. The rod rebounds away and back into a second teleportation hole and vanishes.

Karma rushes back towards Star Emperor. His earlier attack just served to make her stronger! However, Star Emperor is ready and fires a Radiation Blast back at her first! The lethal energy rips into Karma, weakening her and causing her great pain. Still, she somehow reaches her intended target and punches Star Emperor, sending him flying backwards!

Seeing that the Unity Device can be touched, Starboy moves to smash it! Goldstar is faster and she intercepts the evil clone of her child.

“I don’t think so!” Goldstar cries out as she grabs Starboy by the arm, swings him around and then drives him head first into the Infinity Core metal floor!

But her efforts are not enough, as both the evil Backlash and Kumiho strike at the machine! The device smashes underneath their fists and is no more!

“We’ve won!” Star Emperor cries out. “And you’ve lost everything!”

While that sinks in, the enemy begins to fade away and black falls over everyone…

Roll Call: Starlord, Flow, Midnight, Mauve, Lightning Rod, Menagerie, Starboy, Tilt-A-Whirl, Whirl-I-Gig, Whiteout, & Backlash with Dr. Mary Beth Williams, Dr. Morgan Williams, Guardian, the Engineer, Tigereye, Sea Guard, Sea Sprite, and Halo vs. Darkstar, Flex, BlackOut, Live Wire, Skinwalker, Star Princess, Black Ice, Recoil, Sea Conqueror, Sea Queen, Powerstone & Black Pearl.

Back at the Sea Base, the struggles there continue. Backlash lays into Skinwalker in the form of Darkstar, rendering him unconscious. A moment after that, the enemy vanishes and everything goes black.

In a nearby hallway, Eldritch Arcana has Lightning Rod teleported to the infirmary while she chases after those who harmed him. In this case the real Darkstar, Star Princess, and Black Ice. Arcana fires a mystic bolt at Darkstar and she is harmed by the attack. Star Princes and Black Ice turn to see just how did that! Both seem prepared to retaliate when they vanish and Arcana’s world goes black.

Inside the walls of the base it self, Flow is tracking her evil male counterpart. She moves up behind him and locks him in a chokehold. Her counterpart tries to escape, but cannot. The two hang there, intangible while the world fades around them.

Whirl-I-Gig just teamed up with Starlord to take out Powerstone. The two now turn their attention to Black Pearl. Once more whirl sends Pearl’s balance off kilter while Starlord lands a haymaker, sending the evil woman rocketing away. The two get to enjoy their victory for a few moments and then everything goes black.

In another hallway, another struggle is taking place. BlackOut has Halo all wrapped up and is ready to begin feasting when Tilt-A-Whirl tries to help. The speedster inadvertently breaks the hypnotic hold Halo was gaining over BlackOut. Tilt rushes off to get help.
BlackOut wrote:"You scheming witch!" he hisses at Halo. "I will enjoy this and ensure you do not." BlackOut will begin to drain her, and there is nothing seductive or arousing about it like so many Hollywood movies wrongly portray.
“You should know that there is a reason I’m called Halo,” the heroine defiantly responds as she is bitten. “That’s because I’m an angel, and angel’s are on the side of light and goodness!”

As she speaks, bolts of pure light erupt from Halo’s hands, tearing into BlackOut’s shadowy body! Her blood is brimming with life energy and power. BlackOut is burned from the inside and the outside as reality cease to be.

Interlude: End Game

In a place beyond time and space, the game has reached it end.

"Your end is now at hand," Black Tesseract declares. With a gesture a floating viewing window comes into being. The view is into the dimension of Thulkos. There, the mighty Tyrannon is no more! His essence has been distilled into the Thanatic Rod. A dark haired woman clad in skin-tight black stand there, rod in hand.

"Fire the Thanatic Rod!" Black Tesseract commands with unholy delight.

Serena complies and the rod is fired! Unimaginable energy is unleashed and channeled backwards in time, destroying entire universes right at the moment of creation, like blowing out a candle! Now those universes will never grow or expand. Everyone, everything in those universes will have never existed.

"All that you know, all that care for now dies!" Black Tesseract gloats. "Even your own doubles will now be undone!"

In spite of the gravity of the situation, the white clad Tesseract remains calm and serene.

"On the contrary," the White Tesseract responded. "All it means is that this farce is finally over."

The Black Tesseract is completely shocked by her opponent's cavalier attitude in the face of destruction. Then she notices that is it her that is fading, not her opponent!

"What? How is this possible?"

"It is possible because in your arrogance you could never imagine that I would stoop to do the things you would do", the White Tesseract answers. "While I may favor compassion over conquest, do not for one moment think that I am less ruthless than you are. Quite the contrary. I knew that you would come into being and I've been planning for this game for a long time now. I knew exact what you would do, because that is what I would do. So instead of trying to stop you, I wanted you to succeed. I only gave you enough resistance to think that your plans were going as you wanted them to, when it fact all you have done is destroy yourself. A fitting end I think. You were defeated the moment you arrived here."

"But how--?" Is all Black Tesseract can say before she fades back into nothingness. Her male doppelganger does the same.

"How?" The true Tesseract repeats. "It's quiet simple. I used your own tactics against you in two ways."

"The Unity Device function as my agents thought it would. But it also had another purpose unknown to even them. The Thanatic Rod targets dimensions based on its quantum signature. The Unity Device's other purpose was to swap the signatures between the different dimensions. Once the machine was intangible to those from my dimension and could be affected by yours, then it was ready. In short, the device changed the target. Those dimensions you wanted destroyed were protected and those you thought protected were destroyed. Your dimension is gone, as is that of your male counterpart. Gone as if they never existed. You are now only a fading bad memory."

"Of course you would have sensed such a thing, if that was the only defense I tried. So I had to be subtle. While the Unity Device worked to change the target, the original Goldstar and Starlord bathed the Thanatic Rod with their light, completing the other part of the change over in the Rod itself."

In the window that the Black Tesseract opened, the Serena who fired the Rod has vanished because she never existed. High in the sky overhead, two beings emerge from the two of the eight suns that shine overhead. One is the original Goldstar, the other her male counterpart the original Starlord. They two exchange greetings before flying away.

"And so it ends," the male Tesseract adds. "A pleasure to work with you."

"And with you as well. Take care."

The male Tesseract vanished, while the female Tesseract paused for a moment before resetting the chessboard in this room of infinite chessboards. There were always other games to play, but no other would be played against her own evil doppelganger. That particular monster had been slain. Reality was once more reset to the point right before the doppelganger's first appeared. All was as it was suppose to be.

Roll Call: Blackout

Blackout is now alone on the streets of San Diego. Just moments ago, he and Backlash were chasing down the men in the Infinity Exports van when a mysterious woman dressed in skin-tight lavender teleported away with them! Backlash decides to go to the Starr Building to check in, as his comlink was lost earlier in the evening. Blackout remains behind to investigate further.

Realizing that he is not alone, Blackout goes back up to the rooftops in search of this mysterious strange. But yet when he arrives there, Blackout now senses that he is alone. There is no one around. Minutes pass, but it doesn't appear that the woman in lavender is going to return.

Roll Call: Flux, Menagerie, Tesla, Covenant, Eldrich, Frostbite, Gargoyle, Powershift, & Sea Guard

In the heart of the Twilight Realm, the Vigilant and company have located Morjok, a being of immense magical power who is attempting to overwrite Earth's dimension with his own! While the heroes fight their way through Morjok's minions, other arrivals are noted. The infamous Black Paladin has just teleported in with his consort, the notorious Lady Bale. Behind them standing on a floating golden platform is a blond haired woman wearing an outfit similar to Lady Bale's but in all white. With her is a man in robes and another man who is vaguely familiar to some of the heroes.

The Gargoyle manages to interrupt Morjok's casting and draws his ire. A blast of magical energy sends the small boy flying backwards, but leaves Gargoyle no worse for wear. He's quickly back up and leaping back into the battle.

Powershift bears in on Morjok. His powers are greatly enhanced in this magical realm, as is everyone who has mystical abilities. 'Shift flies up to Morjok and strikes him with a might blow! This time it is the magical villain who goes flying backwards over seventy feet!

Before Morjok can rise again, Tesla engulfs him in fiery plasma! The Master of Dimensions screams in pain, but somehow remains conscious from the attacks.

Due to Powershift's actions, Morjok is no longer near Black Paladin and Lady Bale. The pair follow Morjok's path, intending to reach him. Their progress is interrupted as Gargoyle comes crashing down! The hulking small boy creates a large impact crater and those close to him are knocked from their feet.

Powershift flies closer to the prone Morjok. "You are defeated," Powershift declares as he lands. "Surrender and undo what you have started!"

Morjok, his head down as if struggling to gather his wits says nothing for a moment. Then in quick motion he rises before Powershift!

"I do not surrender to lesser beings!" With that, Morjok drives his hand into Powershift's chest! It latches on to the Jewel of Krin and with a quick motion jerks it out! Powershift cries out in pain and then slumps to the ground. "Now your power is added to my own!"

Frostbite and Sea Guard reach the scene too late to stop Morjok. Frosty fires an ice ram so as to avoid hitting Powershift, but the magical energy surrounding Morjok repels it. Sea Guard has better success, as his giant watery magical fist knocks Morjok away from Powershift's prone body.

A bit further back, Black Paladin and Lady Bale regain their footing. The dark knight regards Gargoyle with distain. "Ignorant boy! You dare trifle with me?" The Black Paladin's mace is thrown and it slams into Gargoyle, driving him just a bit deeper into his hole, but otherwise it does no real harm to the muscleman.

Lady Bale has eyes on another. She gestures to her left and catches the Purple Phlox with a blast of magical energy from her black gloves. The Phlox has been flying towards Morjok when hit and knocked off course. "I will take your staff this time," Lady Bale declares excitedly.

The Purple Phlox hits the ground hard, but keeps her wits about her. "You want the staff? Here! Take it!" A burst of purplish fire leaps from the staff and engulfs Lady Bale! The villainess screams in agony from the magical flames.

Back at the Golden Platform, Eldrich keeps watch. Morjok has been violently moved away from Black Paladin and Lady Bale. Even worse, the Master of the Twilight Realm seems to have taken a powerful magical artifact from one of the heroes, amplifying his already impressive abilities!

The White Witch finishes her spell, and her powers are transferred to the Magus. The robe clad mage then casts his own spell. It strikes Morjok and begins to drain power away from him!

Back at the main battle, Flux shrinks has he flies along until he is tiny in size. He then lands at Morjok's feet.

Menagerie reverts to her normal form and then dashes off, racing towards Morjok amplifying her strength in the process. The heroine collides violently with Morjok, but was unable to penetrate his magical defenses. Instead she ricochet's off and goes sprawling across the landscape, a bit dazed from the impact.

Right at the Morjok's seeming moment of triumph, the Magus, his own impressive magical abilities amplified by the White Witch, strikes! His spell begins to drain away Morjok's magical might!

Angered by this, Morjok spins towards the distant golden platform and unleashes a blast of magical energy. But Eldrich is there and ready to dispel the attack. The blast fades away, as if it never existed.

"Well done!" the White Witch purrs. "We are winning!"

Elsewhere, the other Dark Masters are not having such good fortune. The Black Paladin teleported himself and Lady Bale to engage Morjok directly, but he has since been moved across the battlefield. Instead the dark knight has encountered Gargoyle, while Lady Bale confronts the Purple Phlox. The Phlox was blasted by Bale, but retaliates by burning the villainess with her Crystal Staff. Those who would do evil burn from the flames of the Purple Phlox, as Lady Bale is finding out!

Unable to stand her screams, the Black Paladin throws his enchanted mace once more. The weapon catches the Purple Phlox in the stomach and sends her flying backwards. But before the dark knight can move to his consort's side, the child-sized Gargoyle leaps from the impact crater he made earlier and reaches Black Paladin. Lifting the startled Paladin up, Gargoyle slams him down hard on the rocky plateau!

Closer to Morjok, the Vigilant continue their assault. Tesla engulfs Morjok in fiery plasma once more. Morjok's defenses seem stronger this time, but some of the plasma does make its way through. It's as if he's getting weaker all of the sudden.

Frostbite launches a series of razor sharp icicles and these slams into Morjok's shield. One does make its way through, stabbing the evil conqueror in the process.

Menagerie shifts forms once more, back to that of the famous heroine Goldstar. With a cry of "Radiation Blast!" Menagerie unleashes another attack. Much like Tesla's efforts, much of it is blocked by Morjok' shields, but some of it does seep through.

From seemingly out of nowhere, Flux suddenly enlarges, growing form very tiny to titan sized in a heartbeat right underneath Morjok! The dimensional conqueror is uprooted and violently tossed into the air! His personal shield is rented by the assault and for a moment he looses his grasp on the Jewel of Krin.

Sea Guard acts at that moment. Generating a water arm from his Elemental Ring, the sea-going hero grasps the Jewel and draws it back. While Morjok violently hits the ground behind him, Sea Guard gentle pushes the Jewel of Krin back into Powershift's chest.

"Hang on, pal!" Sea Guard says. "This'll make you feel better."

With Morjok's defeat, the Twilight Realm begins to collapse! Without Morjok's will to hold it together, the boundaries of the intruding dimension receded. A wall of white energy rushes back to its source, and what had been transformed in its wake is undone! In a blink of an eye, the white bubble that surrounded Horton's Plaza is gone and the shopping center restored. The Vigilant and their allies now find themselves inside the plaza, near the place where some of them vaguely recall a sacrifice to have taken place.

Most of the heroes, the fallen Morjok, Black Paladin, and Lady Bale are on the ground floor. Eldrich, Magus, and the White Witch are standing on a higher level over looking the plaza below. And still above them are Covenant and Serena. The magical enhancement that all the mages were feeling is now gone. Their power levels have returned to normal and those who had been twisted by the magical realm are now back to normal.

"NO!" The White Witch screams in a combination of anger and horror. "The power is gone!"
Flux wrote:"Vigilant! Secure the area! Sea Guard, Frostbite, back up the Phlox. Tesla, take that black robed joker. Menagerie you and me on the others with him."
The reversion to his normal self causes Gargoyle to pause. Seizing that moment, Black Paladin teleports away, vanishing from Gargoyle's grasp. Lady Bale rises into the air and flies up to where the White Witch and the Magus are located. Frostbite sends a blast of ice chasing after Lady Bale, but it falls short of the target. Sea Guard reaches the side of the Purple Phlox and helps her back to her feet.

Tesla regards the Magus, as the Black Paladin appears among them and Lady Bale flies closer.
Tesla wrote:"Gladly," Tesla says, then turns her attention to her target, "Easy or hard, you're still coming with us."
"I think not," the Magus answers.

Tesla fires a blast of electrical energy at the Magus, but a powerful magical shield keeps it at bay. The electricity arcs about the shield and both quickly fade away.

"The last of my stolen energy is spent," the Magus tells his companions. "The day is lost. We must withdraw."

"Agreed," the Black Paladin answers.

The dark knight teleports once more, taking Lady Bale, the White Witch, and the Magus with him. Eldrich is left behind while Menagerie in the form of Goldstar fires a photon blast that chases the villains away. Tesla, Flux, and Menagerie regard Eldrich.

While that is going on, a disgruntled Gargoyle grabs Morjok and leaps away, taking the magical villain into custody for PRIMUS.

Roll Call: Tilt-A-Whirl

Tilt finds that she has been teleported somewhere else by the woman known as Lavender. The commander she Topsy-Turvied earlier demands that everyone be captured.
Tilt-A-Whirl wrote:"whydoyouhavetobesobad?" Tilt asks as she rushes the same man she affected earlier. She'll hit him with her topsy-turvy power and then go rushing off to try to find a way out of here before that lavender woman takes them someplace even less fun than this.
Tilt is on the man before he can defend himself and he goes down disorientated once more. Gunfire breaks out and Tilt races to keep ahead of it. As she rushes about the room, Tilt notices one of the doors opening. Making a break for it, Tilt rushes towards it only to find more armed men entering! She moves through and around the men before they can even react!

Now out in the hallway, Tilt races along, looking for a way out of this place. She comes to a stop upon reaching a window. Much to her surprise, the place she is inside is underwater! Fish swim past the window and Tilt can see that this is all of a much larger underwater complex!

The speedster pauses to look outside at the ocean for a moment, before remembering to run off once more. The sounds of alarms filled the air. Movement could be heard behind Tilt, but she ran off once more before they could reach her.

As Tilt ran along, she passed many closed hatches, but some were open. Taking these Tilt ran deeper into the complex. She passed by signs indicating "danger" and "authorized personal only" without a thought.

All of the sudden, the path she was followed entered into a very large corridor. Large enough for motor vehicles to move in and out of. The noise of trucks moving attracted Tilt's attention. Dashing off in that direction, the young girl found herself in a very large and very perplexing room. Large ramps, wide enough for trucks to go up and down lead from the large corridor to the center of the room. And at the center of the room was a series of electromagnetic coils.

Energy sparked around these coils and leaped to the area between the coils. There, the very fabric of reality was torn asunder. It was like a picture floating in mid-air. On the other side of the rift was a green field with a blue-sky overhead. A semi tractor-trailer was moving towards Tilt in the picture. The truck drew closer and closer until it emerged from the rift! It passed through the rip and drove down the ramp deeper into the Infinity Exports complex.

A sudden tremor passes through the room and Tilt just manages to stay on her feet. The electricity begins to arc wildly among the coils in the room. It hisses and a loud hum fills the air. The display gives Tilt the impression that something very bad is about to happen!

Roll Call: Backlash & Stargirl

As Backlash leaps about, he can't help but notice the large white bubble engulfing Horton's Plaza. Clearly something weird is going on there. Upon reaching the Clinic in the Starr Building, Dr. Williams brings Backlash up to date. Edgar is connected to the Clinic as well.

"Infinity Exports is a company that transports goods from various ports all over the world," Edgar explains. "They were formed six years ago and are using an old oil drilling platform as a base of operations twenty miles off shore. They use this platform like a giant floating warehouse. I can't find any records of any trouble with them before."

"This is curious," Edgar continues. "The homing beacon in your missing communicator was last detected at this Infinity Exports platform! It's there right now."
Backlash wrote:"Looks like I'll be making a house call later, whether "When was the last you heard from them? Where did they enter? And did they call for all members to join?" he asked Edgar.
"Master Flux did try to contact all members at the time, but could not reach you or Menagerie. One moment, sir."

After a pause, Edgar continues.

"I am pleased to report that the white bubble seems to have contracted back and is now gone! The Horton's Plaza area has returned to normal. I am detecting the rest of the team's comlinks."

A sound of a woman crying out in pain causes Backlash to move into action. Racing back to where he left Dr. Williams and Gloria Starr, he finds that Gloria has been transformed. Her clothing has changed into a one-piece body suit that is most in dark read with golden arms and shoulders, a golden band across her waist, and golden calf high boots. A dark red mask covers her eyes. Her hands glow with energy.

"Cool!" Gloria cries out as she looks over the glow about her hands and her change in attire. “But what does it mean? I’m some kind of hero?”

GM Notes

Post by GM Mad »

GM Notes:

The great cross-dimensional crisis has reached its end. The ending I portrayed here is the ending I had in mind when those whole thing was conceived, so basically the heroes were just putting up a good fight against seemingly hopeless odds as Tesseract's plan hinged on the enemy winning. I sensed that the double's had run their course, so it seemed like a good time to just bring the whole thing to an end instead of having it run on even longer.

There was much more to this back in the beginning, but those players involved in that portion are no longer among us, so it was just dropped and let this run its course as best as I could.

We're now back to the point just before the doubles first appeared. The later posts were lifted from posts #67 & 68. You can remember what you wish to remember of the time of the doubles or simply ignore it. Your call.

The rest of the July 4th will pass without incident. Likewise there will be no trouble on the 5th or the 6th, which will advance us to Monday, which is the 7th of July. Of course you may do things during this time, there just won't be any crisis that demands the Vigilante's attention. Those who actually have jobs will have to go to work on Monday.

You're finally free of Independence Day! Congratulations!

I can’t find where I last gave XP’s out, so I’m just going to give a blanket reward for putting up with all this weirdness and playing your own evil copies. Everyone has 20 xp’s to spend.

Now what?

Stargirl for the first time

Post by Stargirl »

Stargirl:
A sound of a woman crying out in pain causes Backlash to move into action. Racing back to where he left Dr. Williams and Gloria Starr, he finds that Gloria has been transformed. Her clothing has changed into a one-piece body suit that is most in dark read with golden arms and shoulders, a golden band across her waist, and golden calf high boots. A dark red mask covers her eyes. Her hands glow with energy.
"Cool!" Gloria cries out as she looks over the glow about her hands and her change in attire. “But what does it mean? I’m some kind of hero?”

Dr. Williams then explains more.
Dr. Williams wrote:“Long story short,” Dr. Williams answers. “You’re Stargirl. Your mother is Goldstar and you’ve inherited her powers. However, they weren’t supposed to manifest themselves just yet, so you’re unprepared for them. They weren’t supposed to surface until you were a little bit older and able to deal with all of this. You’re young, so you don’t have the full scope of powers that your mother has. But you can project various blasts of energy, fly, and create an energy field for protection. You have the power of a star in the palm of your hands. Looks like being turned into stone somehow triggered your powers to appear earlier than planned. You’re subconscious knows what it can do, that information has just be kept from you until now. You’ll just have to learn on the fly.”
“I should be really freaked out about this, but it seems, somehow familiar.” Gloria muses. “As if I knew this was going to happen. Very strange. Déjà vu.”

“My mother is Goldstar?” Gloria continues. It is surprising, but upon reflection maybe it really isn’t. In fact it somehow seems right. It does explain why she’s away so much and how come they have such close ties to the Vigilant. Then why doesn’t Gloria have golden skin?

“I guess I am Stargirl. I have the power of a star, then I guess the name fits.”

“So what happens now?”
Time to rise and shine!

Menagerie:

The others go down quickly, leaving only SkinWalker in the form of Darkstar still standing. Menagerie moves to aid Backlash against her doppelganger, taking on Flux's massive size and density. However, before she can lay into him, the world around them fades to darkness.

Changeling:

Taking Nemesis' form, Changling attacks Sinister Tesla. The attack proves to be mental in nature and staggers the villain, but does not put him down. Seeing that it seems to have been effective, Changling repeats the tactic. Just as he unleashes a second mental blast, everything fades to black. *Wait. Wait...*

Kumiho:

Throwing the Queezy twins to the hard floor, Kumiho is just about to leap upon them with her now-massive Reflux-body. Suddenly, Backlash calls out that the machine is no longer intangible! Shifting targets, she joins him in mashing it into worthless debris. "Hahahahahahahaha..." she laughs, enjoying the destruction as much as the victory. Then, everything fades away. *Hey, that wasn't supposed to happen, was it...?*

Menagerie:

The next she knows, they are replaying the battle with Morjok! She remembers this fight, and it's turning out just as it did before. Does that mean they've fallen into some kind of infinite loop? Are they doomed to repeat this sequence of events ad infinitum?

The battle ends just as it had, Black Paladin and his companions teleport away, and Morjok is carried off by the Gargoyle. Lily waits as the seconds tick by, waiting for the dimensions to fracture once again, and spill strange heroes and villains out around them. More seconds pass, and nothing happens. Lily breathes a sigh of relief, believing perhaps that this strange time paradox is finally behind them.

Looking around at her teammates, Lily smiles a bit wearily. "I think it's finally time to go home. Happy Independence Day." She remembers that she had arrived here after the fireworks, so by now it must be pretty late. Hopefully, the kids are in bed, and she can go home and do likewise. Fatigue is starting to take its toll.

Changing into the form of Tilt-A-Whirl, Lily races home. Fortunately, the weekend is as uneventful as life with a family of two kids can be, and Lily relaxes and enjoys just living a normal life for a few days.

Sorry about not posting sooner. Being sick made it really hard to concentrate, and I found the task of keeping up with all these intermingling characters and clones of characters very difficult even when well. In comics, you have all these great visual cues to help keep track of things, but in a purely text medium like this it is much harder. Still, it was a cool story, and I enjoyed the chance to play an evil version of Lily.
I'm not better than you. I am you.

Blackout:
Realizing that he is not alone, Blackout goes back up to the rooftops in search of this mysterious strange. But yet when he arrives there, Blackout now senses that he is alone. There is no one around. Minutes pass, but it doesn't appear that the woman in lavender is going to return.
Blackout stands on the rooftops sensing he is alone, and in some strange way he feels even more alone than the circumstances might normally dictate. No one appears, but he can't shake the feeling of loss.

Eventually Blackout will make his way to the Starr building. Upon learning that everything is calm and peaceful for the moment, he will leave a way to contact him should Flux or Edgar need to reach him. After that he will return to his residence for some much needed sleep.

He will spend the next several days working out and keeping his remaining senses honed. The following nights will see Blackout on patrol as normal throughout the city he now calls home.

some R&R..

Post by Tesla »

Tesla:

The dark knight teleports once more, taking Lady Bale, the White Witch, and the Magus with him. Eldrich is left behind while Menagerie in the form of Goldstar fires a photon blast that chases the villains away. Tesla, Flux, and Menagerie regard Eldrich.

"Sorry Flux, he slipped away," Tesla reports. "Next time..." she says more to herself.

Everything begins to wind down and Tesla spends her free time working on her electric cage and fine-tuning the drain part of it. It's going to take her some time to get it right, but she's more than confident that she will get it down pretty quickly.

What does bother her though is the early mornings when she wakes up in a cold sweat. Tesla keeps having these troublesome dreams of seeing herself hideously deformed with bits of metal, coils and rods sticking out of her like a strange industrial halo. She's more powerful in the dreams, but she's so cold and quite insane. The only way to clear her head is to work out, and work out hard.

Eldritch Arcana

The mystic bolt strikes its target inflicting pain as it was intended. The other two turn and seem prepared to retaliate-then all of them vanish!

That was not Teleportation! What-

The world goes black in that instant, spinning away . . .

Flex

Flex never saw it coming. Never guessed it could happen. The grip around his neck is an abrupt halt to his progress through the walls of this underwater base.

No! Can't be touched like this! Who-

Flex panics, trying to break the hold but only locking it deeper.

Grow, expand, get out don't-care-if-in-wall-grow-GROW-

The blackness that comes is only partly from the chokehold . . .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flow

Flow executed the grab in a textbook fashion, locking the arm under Flex's chin. He jerks to a halt, panicing and thrashing.

Obviously, he is NOT trained to counter this. Not so identical after all.

The blackness that comes is a shock to Flow, leaving time for only one thought.

We lost . . .

Flux

They're converging on it! I'm too slow, too slow again!

Flux can see both enemies and allies aiming for the Unity device. The last words he hears are the Star Emperor's cry of triumph as everything fades to black . . .

. . . And the battle with Morjok concludes as the others involved make their escape into the night.

Flux has a moment of surprised recognition when his eye lights on the copper skinned man in the green cloak.

"Eldrich Arcane. Fancy meeting you here. Can you explain why you are aiding known criminals to destroy this dimension, or were you here for another reason?"

Farewell and Well Met

Eldrich Arcane

The blackness of loss envelops Turjess both externally and internally. The world fades and memory is ripped away.

Failure, again. I failed to protect. . .

Eldrich opens his eyes. Now is not the time for mind weariness! Morjok is defeated! The dimensional invasion is thwarted. And his erstwhile allies are deserting him en mass.

Not unexpected. And good riddance. When next I meet the Magus I will not be so cordial. Now, to make a bargain with these strange-

But they are NOT strangers, not all of them.
Flux wrote:"Eldrich Arcane. Fancy meeting you here. Can you explain why you are aiding known criminals to destroy this dimension, or were you here for another reason?"

The Giant and the Mite. The Shaper! She who commands the Primal Element of Lightning! I know them somehow. And they know my name?

"Have we met before? I am not certain. I was here to prevent the eclipse of this dimension by Morjoc. The others were not known to me and presented themselves as allies. Their character has since been revealed to me. I have no regrets at their departure, only that they have escaped to do mischief in the future. If you feel you must verify my words take what means you must.
I stand ready to defend my actions."

Define 'Normal' and Get Back To It

Post by Bruce »

Flux

*Edgar. The Horton Plaza Incident has ended. PRIMUS has one purp in custody. Everyone is fine here. No civilian injuries. No structural damage. Unless something else is on your radar tonight I'm calling it.*

Looking around at her teammates, Lily smiles a bit wearily. "I think it's finally time to go home. Happy Independence Day."

"Agreed. Happy Independence Day. Everyone go home. See family. Have fun. Get some rest. That's an order."

Flux looks up at the night sky tilting his head back to catch the Moon overhead. And with a straight face announces:

"I hereby command the cosmos and all adjacent existences to BEHAVE THEMSELVES for 48 hours! I mean it!"

"There. That should do it. Eldrich, I have no idea why I believe you, but I do. Follow me. For some reason I just know you have no place to stay. I'm going to introduce you to a Dr. Williams for a check-up and a place to sleep. Then I'm going home. I'm very tired for some reason. Must be getting old."

This was a fun ride. I had some trouble with all the different heads I had to wear to write them all. But it was worth the effort. Kudos indeed to all! It seems we lost a few along the way. Too bad. Some of them were doing pretty well. Looking forward to the next installment!

Lavender

Lavender:

Something bad is going on inside Infinity Exports. Lavender's controller is currently unconscious, thus she's free to act as she sees fit. At least for now.

Lavender senses that something is wrong and given her natural curiosity just has to go check it out. The Portal Room is just a short shift away. But all is not right there. Something seems to be wrong with the portal device. It looks like it’s going to explode!

Lavender is just about to shift away, when she spots that speedster that she saw earlier. An odd feeling of déjà vu comes over Lavender. Glimpses of what seem to be memories, but yet they are new at the same time. The speedster is not her enemy.

“Come on, I’ll get us away from here!” Lavender calls out to the speedster. If she agrees, Lavender will teleport back to the roof she just departed from. The area is deserted, but she senses something amiss on a nearby rooftop. Shifting yet again, Lavender finds the luscious Blackout there.

Stepping closer, Lavender calls out, “Hi. Did you miss me?”

“There are two unusual things of note, sir,” Edgar relates. “The first is the miss Gloria has transformed into Stargirl. The second is that Master Backlash and Master Blackout were involved in an incident with a creature that looked like a werewolf being pursued by an unknown super calling herself Lavender and agents of Infinity Exports. This Lavender seems to be a teleporter and Master Backlash’s Comlink now seems to be one mile below the Infinity Exports platform. I’m getting reports that there was an explosion at the platform and it seems to be collapsing into the ocean.”

Glad you all enjoyed our latest round of weirdness. I look at it this way. I’ve gotten the big time travel story and the cross-dimensional crisis stories out of my system, so we’ll be moving on to other weird things. Actually, I have to decide which weird thing I want to do next. There are so many to choose from!

something missing.. revised..

Blackout:
Blackout stands on the rooftops sensing he is alone, and in some strange way he feels even more alone than the circumstances might normally dictate. No one appears, but he can't shake the feeling of loss.
Shifting yet again, Lavender finds the luscious Blackout there.

Stepping closer, Lavender calls out, “Hi. Did you miss me?”
Turning to face Lavender, Blackout finds himself uncertain at just what to say. The loss he felt has been so quickly and immediately reversed at the woman's arrival. Clearly something is going on, or had gone on, or... something, but he can't seem to figure out just what.

"At the risk of sounding very unstable and stalker-ish, I find myself missing you terribly," Blackout replies, throwing it all on the line, "until this moment of course, now that you're back. I can't seem to explain this rollercoaster I suddenly find myself on, but I have a feeling you're somehow the cause of it." He says the last with a genuine smile, waiting to see how Lavender responds.

Blackout’s words bring a smile to Lavender’s face. She was nervous about this meeting for some reason that she cannot fathom, but not that apprehension fades.

“I can’t explain it either,” Lavender answers. “This feels right to me too, as if we’ve done this before. But before going too far, I need to tell you the truth about me. I’ve got very special needs. You see I’m a genetically produced human. I was created in lab by an alien race known as the Moulders. You see humanoids are the predominate kind of species in the galaxy and the Moulders are more like alien cockroaches.”

“Anyway, I was created to be a liaison for them and to function as slave labor. Their plan was to create a prototype, me, and then if successful breed a whole bunch of me. But, the experiment was deemed a failure. I didn’t have any powers at all, just my companion training and the unfailing ability to follow the orders of those who held my leash.”

“Long story short: they sold me into slavery and dropped the project. A few years and several owners later, my powers finally did kick in. I’m a teleporter. I can teleport myself or even others. I can even cross into other dimensions and can tell if someone is from a different dimension.”

“Eventually I can into service with the head of the black op’s division of Infinity Exports. You see, they are plundering goods from across numerous dimensions. That creature I was hunting is a hunter from another dimension. He was forbidden to try and hunt here on Earth, but escaped, so we were trying to bring him in before he killed someone.”

“But when I was back at the Infinity Core, the portal was becoming unstable. I think it might have blown up. My guess is that my former controller is now dead, so I need to new boss before someone else takes that position. I guess that’s where you come in.”

“I’m yours if you want me. I’m guessing that you do. The next question is what do you want me to do now?”

a commitment...

Blackout:

Listening to Lavender's tale, Blackout can't help but think it sounds so very familiar. He's about to make comment at various points during it, but seems to think that he has somehow said all of this before. It makes him think long and hard about what he wants to say, and finally he finds the words.

Blackout doesn't look overly thrilled at the options, but there doesn't seem to be any other choice, at least for now. "I can't say that this is what I want, but I definitely don't want you to fall in with any other unsavory characters. Ever. It also doesn't mean that I'm not going to rest until we figure out some way for you to be free completely. I can't go into this thinking of you as anything less than my equal at the very least. No matter how long it takes, I won't give up on that. You have my promise on it."

Blackout pauses again before finally giving in, "So what do I need to do in order to be 'your boss' as it were?"

A little later, Blackout will also ask some other important questions, "Is there anything we need to worry about with this Infinity Exports? Could any of them have escaped and maybe be looking for you? Should we alert anyone just in case, or do you believe it to be a dead issue?"

Regardless of what answers are revealed, Blackout plans to inform Flux so that he is aware of what Infinity Exports was really up to. Better to have others out there in the know in case there were any survivors.

Lavender:

“I was right, you are a nice guy! I really do appreciate the offer, but this is the way I was made. I’m not sure it can be overcome. What I do know is that if you don’t hold my leash, then someone else can. For instance, if you do have my leash, then I have to obey you, but no one else. But you don’t have to tell what to do all the time. It just ensures that no one else can make me work for them. Thus I am safe from being controlled by anyone else. That just leaves the situation between us, which is manageable. This arrangement is certainly better than any other one that I’ve had. You’ll find that I’m really handy to have around.”

“That is so sweet…”, Lavender starts to say, tears welling up in her eyes. “No one has ever been so nice to me before. I think this is the start of something wonderful.”
Blackout wrote:Blackout pauses again before finally giving in, "So what do I need to do in order to be 'your boss' as it were?"
Reaching out, Lavender hugs Blackout. “You’ve already done it, hon. I’m yours to command, should choose too, or course. The only orders I will obey are yours. What do you want to do now?”

“It probably should at least be searched, I would think. I’m not sure what the portal overloading and blowing up would do! I mean, if it rips open into other dimensions that would be really bad! I hope that isn’t the case! I’m not really sure what goods they took from other dimensions. I mean, there might be alien tech or weapons there. As for the company itself, the main part is just a normal business. This was a sort of black ops operation, so I can't say for sure that they'll leave me alone.”

As the battle ends, those disappearing in the process within moments his eyes look around to see Horton Plaza, where it all began. “Is it over?” he can’t help to ask.

“All I want to do is go home and see Gloria.” Looking at the others, ‘Guess I’ll see you later.” He says as he lays out a ice slide and heads toward the Starr Building.

Backlash
"I am pleased to report that the white bubble seems to have contracted back and is now gone! The Horton's Plaza area has returned to normal. I am detecting the rest of the team's comlinks."
“Well that’s good to hear.”

“What the heck did you do?” he asks seeing her hands glow with light.

“So what happens now?”

“Well that mostly depends on you. Some use power to protect while others to their own ends. While still more try to hide there given talent.” He says easily to her as she tries to make sense of her new situation.

"Agreed. Happy Independence Day. Everyone go home. See family. Have fun. Get some rest. That's an order."
“Roger that.” He replies.

Lash will get ready to take the days rest when the time arises.

Tilt-A-Whirl:

A sudden tremor passes through the room and Tilt just manages to stay on her feet. The electricity begins to arc wildly among the coils in the room. It hisses and a loud hum fills the air. The display gives Tilt the impression that something very bad is about to happen!

"ohboysomeonewontbehappywhenthatgoesboom!" Tilt says as she looks for somewhere to get far away so that she doesn't get blamed for it!

“Come on, I’ll get us away from here!” Lavender calls out to the speedster. If she agrees, Lavender will teleport back to the roof she just departed from.

"um, ok," Tilt says, and goes over to the woman since she doesn't seem mad or anything. Teleporting turns out to be pretty cool! She waves to the pretty woman as she leaves, easily running down the side of the building. She's not eager to return home quite yet but knows she probably should before someone starts looking for her.

“Maybe I’ll pick up some black leather and stilettos and try to take over the world,” Gloria casually answers. “I’m just kidding! My mom would ground me until I was thirty if I did anything silly like that!”

A though comes to Gloria’s mind and she turns towards Dr. Williams. “How come you know so much? How did you know that I was Stargirl?”

Gloria hears that Cy and the others are coming back, so she’ll wait here for their return.

Blackout wraps himself up in Lavender's embrace for a long minute. It just feels so right, and somehow familiar. He wonders if he'll ever figure out just why this all seems like he's lived it before, but for now pushes it to the back of his mind and enjoys the moment.
“It probably should at least be searched, I would think. I’m not sure what the portal overloading and blowing up would do! I mean, if it rips open into other dimensions that would be really bad! "Then we should probably go to the Starr building and try to get in touch with Flux," Blackout declares. "We can tell him what you know and of the possibilities. I don't know if we'll be able to investigate further, although that tech would probably be extremely beneficial. Either way, more of the good guys will be in the know."

Blackout will see if Lavender would like to join him on a swing line for two across the city as they make their way to the Starr building.

When Flux questions Eldrich about his activities in the fight with Morjok, Menagerie floats nearby in the form of Goldstar.

"Yes, sir," Menagerie replies with a smile. Flux's command to the universe draws a chuckle from Lily. Since he's declared himself satisfied with Eldrich's answer, Lily will relax and head home.

Weirdness--Continued

Post by Bruce »

Flux

Infinity Exports. Infinity Exports. That name . . .

. . . unlocks a freight train of memories for Flux. All of them. Memories of the fifth of July, a sacrifice, sentient dinosaurs, the destruction of San Diego, the end of the world! Memories of the more recent events just erased. All of it.

"Wrgh. Hrm."

Flux is jolted by it all slamming in at once. It's a lot to take in.

*Understood Edgar. Contact the Harbor police and the Coast Guard. Inform them of the situation and to send rescue craft. I'm inbound to the site. Stargirl will be all right. Nothing to worry about there. Have Dr. Williams explain it to her.*

"Sorry team. New emergency. Rescue mission in the bay. Collapsing oil platform. Form up on me I know the place."

Flux will expand to giant size and offer rides to those that need it then head out.

So now what?? No doppelgangers to set things off, no Morjok merger, no magic sacrifice, so who is it now?
