CR 571 November 13th - 15th
November 13th –
(The Frontier) Schar, Mercy and Perrel discretely examine the sailors with Detect Evil spells in an attempt to find out who tried to kill Claudius. (TF#147)
(New Frontiers) The Duke's procession departs Timberline and enters Elcadan territory. Late that afternoon, the procession reaches the outskirts of Wrassledown and find it strangely deserted. No smoke is seen rising from chimney's on this chilly late fall day. Scouts are sent out to check out Wrassledown before the whole procession rides in. Sir Rowan suggests that Lady Sallavarian create her Magical Mansion so that the non-combatants can have a safe refuge in case of trouble. Argent casts Fly and then Invisibility and goes forth to explore. Sir Kalindor follows on his Pegasus as does Yusef using his Wings of Flying. Sherra goes in on foot and discovers a seemingly deaf boy eating in a general store. The child is dirty and seems weary. Sherra easily picks him up with the intent of taking him back to the riders. As she does that, Sherra hears wood creaking on the floor above her. This building is not deserted!
No one is spotted in town, but soon a seductive melody is heard by all and some are drawn to it. The fliers discover that it is a harpy standing on the top of a barn playing a harp. Lyonessa sings to counter the charming melodies effects. Yusef covers the harpy with a Silence Spell, ending the song. The harpy then just vanishes. Right after that, hideous creatures burst forth from the barn the harpy was standing on! These twisted caricatures of men rush forward in seemingly unlimited numbers. Argent casts a Wall of Fire in the path of the horde and a few are burned to death by it. But then the rest of the horde turn and move around the wall! Chareos follows this up with a Fireball.
After casting Silence on the Harpy, Yusef flies to make sure she is really gone. He enters the loft of the barn she was on top of and finds two beings inside it. One is an older man dressed in the battle armor of Hextor that does not look right. The other is a woman dressed in black robes with alabaster white skin and hair. She carries a staff made of ivory. The woman tells her companion, “We have an unwanted visitor, Lord Baracus.” This Lord Baracus moves to attack Yusef. Chareos' Fireball nearly reaches the pair and part of the barn starts to burn. Yusef recognizes the woman as his Great Aunt Thelma.
Ivy confirms that these monsters are undead in nature. Crysania creates a Blade Barrier for protection and more of the undead are destroyed by it. Serena notes the presence of evil magic in some of the houses along the main street. Argent tosses a Fireball at the horde between the Wall of Fire and the Blade Barrier. Serena uses the fire Argent made to summon a Fire Elemental on to the battlefield. The elemental lashes out with its fiery arms burning the horde of undead. As the undead horde is bearing down on the on ground defenders, sneak attacks are launched from the second floors of several buildings; Magic Missiles and Lightning Bolts.
Lord Kalindor follows Yusef into the barns on his Pegasus. There he finds Yusef fighting a Hextorite with little success and speaking to the woman in black. When Lord Baracus sees Lord Kalindor, he shoves Yusef aside and rushes to attack. As he becomes enraged at the prospect of battle his enemy it becomes clear that Lord Baracus is wearing make up of a sort for his face is actually mummified! Lord Baracus is also undead! As the two enemies fight, Yusef speaks to Thelma. She is proud of her creations, but her voices does not show any emotion. Yusef realizes that Alexander took her ability to feel emotions away, leaving Thelma as cold as the undead she favors.
Sherra returns to the general store where she found the child. Upstairs she finds drow using wands to attack her friends. More barriers are erected to slow down the approaching horde. Argent makes herself a target of the second floor attacks and absorbs their energy into her tiara. Then she uses the stolen magic to send a Fireball into the building! As Sherra sneaks up towards the undead she finds Lord Vanarkus running in from behind.
Lord Kalindor sinks his Holy Axe into Lord Baracus doing much damage, but no blood comes forth. Just dust and dried muscle. As the two fight, Yusef speaks to his Aunt Thelma. He compliments her on such an ingenious plan, but she replies: “Not my plans,” Thelma states. “It was Lord Baracus’ goal to create the perfect undead warrior to serve Hextor; a force so powerful that only the strongest would survive. It would weed out all the weaklings. I only helped make his dream come true.”
“It was Abigail who suggested using this town for the test, or rather Krazzora, as she prefers to be called these days. It seems obvious now that she wanted our undead to eliminate those who just arrived. It appears that your companions are more than up to the task of destroying our creations. So be it.”
Yusef grabs Thelma's staff, easily taking it away from her. She asks to get it back, but Yusef refuses. The demoness hits him with a Power Word: Stun and Yusef looses all control of himself. Thelma reclaims her staff just as Lord Kalindor splits Lord Baracus' skull. Thelma chastises Lord Baracus for being so emotional. Then the demoness teleports away with Lord Baracus' body.

Re: CR 571 November 13th - 15th
Outside the fighting comes to an end as the mages made use of many area effect spells to destroy the horde. Those that did survive the magical onslaught are killed easy enough. It becomes clear that the inhabitants of Wrassledown were transformed into those hideous undead creatures. Crysania reveals that Lord Baracus is a Animus, a special form of undead used on powerful followers of Hextor who fail in their tasks. This undead army was Lord Baracus' attempt to get back into the good graces of Hextor once more.
During the clean up, Serena notes that the wands the drow were using are the source of the evil magic she noted. She touches one of the wands and then drops it as if it was red hot. Serena explains that this wands are not standard magic items. Instead a short cut was used and that method was to place a living soul inside the wand! Each time the wand was used, more of the soul was drained away until it ceased to exist. Those touching the wands hear the wail of pain from the tormented souls trapped inside them. The wands are destroyed, freeing the souls to pass into the afterlife. A Singer's Harp is found. It was used by the harpy to amplify her song. It is given to Lyonessa.
Yusef says that his Aunt Thelma was among the leaders of the force they just fought. Many wonder why Yusef didn't mention this before and Ivy asks the question directly. A disagreement breaks out and harsh words are spoken. This is interrupted when riders are noticed by Argent and Dusk approaching from the south. A woman with them claims that Pyris attacked Wrassledown and destroyed everyone in it. The Guardians move to stop the men from spreading these lies. Argent teleports herself and Lyonessa in front of the riders path. The songstress tries to ease the situation by calming their fears with her song. Sir Kalindor flies in on his Pegasus and the men seem to start believing that what they were told was wrong. This enrages the demoness in disguise among them and she kills many of them with magic. Crysania arrives on the scene and banishes the demoness with a Holy Word. Then Crysania uses her priestly power to tell the riders the truth of things. The riders from High Guard are shown the truth and realized that they were manipulated onto the verge of starting a war.
En route to intercept the other group of men, Yusef suddenly finds his mother before him on the plain. He soon realizes that it is yet another of his aunts. She promises him the return of his mother, but Yusef must go with him right now. He agrees and the pair vanish.
Many matters are discussed back at the Magical Mansion that Jallarzi created. The Lady Salvadorian comes up with a plan to reveal that a demoness has replaced the Duchess of Elcadan. She plans to carry this plan out tomorrow with the aid of Serena and Crysania.
As a precaution, Sir Kalindor makes sure that there is no evil inside the Magical Mansion before turning in. Much to his surprise, the child that Sherra rescued, seemingly sleeping in her arms, detects as evil! The child threatens to kill Sherra with a strange greenish glow around his hand. The child claims to be Nathan DeVille and that his mission is to kill as many here as he can. Lady Sallavarian settles the issue with a Power Word: Stun. Lord Vanarkus then slays the 'child' and then has the remains burned. (NF#91-98)
Roster of the Guardians of Light: Lord Vanarkus (PL), Argent, Chareos, Crysania, Ivy, Lord Kalindor, Lyonessa, Lord Rowan, Serena, and Sherra.
GM Notes: Yusef's solo exploits start at this point.
(Elfquest) Lia is on watch in the early morning hours when the narwhale returns. She explains what happened with the water spirit and that he wishes to meet. The narwhale squeaks something in response and then swims off, Lia realizing that only Valena could understand the great fish! Having little choice, the group continues to wait.
After flying off from the enemy fort, the elves have their griffons fly to the warrior statue they saw earlier. The statue is in clear sight of the fort they just left, so any attempt to investigate it during they day is bound to be spotted. As they get close, the medallion is spotted in the statues forehead. However, it is to difficult to get close while riding griffons, so a different method to retrieve the medallion has to be used. Kylie casts Alter Self on herself and Lilia adds Invisibility. Giving herself Sylph wings, Kylie files up to retrieve the medallion. As soon as she touches the medallion, the warrior statue comes to life! It's really a golem of some kind. Working fast Kylie forces the medallion out with her dagger and the golem shatters into tiny pieces in response. With two medallions in hand, the group flies to the edge of the forest to rest for the night.
After breakfast, the water spirit rises up from the water. It tells Lia and Valena that he and the narwhale have made their peace. The Narwhale Medallion is handed over, but the Nymph and Hydra Medallions remain missing. That taken care off, Sherwood pilots the barge to the inactive volcano where the groups had agreed to meet at earlier. The two groups compare notes and decide to retire to the griffon stable and plan their next move. The griffons lead the barge back to the griffon stable while Sherwood follows on the barge. Its tricky to get the barge through the opening to the landing area, but Sherwood manages. The group relaxes, has dinner and plans for the next day. (EQ#16-18)

November 14th –
(The Frontier) The ships are attacked during the early morning watch. The Intrepid is attacked by lacedons, ocean going ghouls. The undead come over the railing. Gomja is attacked and held. Then the first mate is bit and thrown over the railing! The Seekers on board arrive in full force and the few lacedons that remain are turned by Tania. Out in the water, a woman is spotted rowing towards the boat. She rescued Gomja when he was thrown overboard. The newcomer introduces herself as the bard Gloria. Gloria says that the ship she had been sailing on was attacked by a giant turtle-like creature that seemed to be working with pirates. Gloria got into a rowboat and managed to get away.
On the Endeavor, a group of six silenced men attack Padraig while he is sleeping. Padraig is alerted by Sean, his homonculus. Mervin, Pad's Staff of the Necromancer Holds the attackers and then drains the life of three of them to recharge himself, reducing the men to ash! Pad and Mercy bind the rest, but then Claudius appears in the cabin kills the remaining men with a Magic Missile. Pad searches the bodies and discovers that all the men had tattoos of Hextor on their bodies. Captain Bartran does not recognize these men and places guards on the doors to the Seekers cabins.
Come the morning the ships move close enough to dock. The ships trade tales of what happened the night before. It is decided to continue on with the quest to find the Sword of Doom and not try and find the monstrous turtle and the pirates it works for. After separating the ships continue on. (TF#147-150)
Roster of the Seekers of the Sword: Claudius, Stephanie (PL), Dani, Fiben, Finrod, Gloria, Kit, Mercy, Padraig, Perrel, Schar and Tania.
GM Notes: Gloria was a transfer from the live game that Rathlar came from that I mentioned a while back. It was tricky enough at times to get a new player into an MB game, but it was even harder when they were at sea. Not like someone could just walk up and join! Fortunately, I was able to introduce Gloria in a way that tied in with an on going plot. These pirates with the giant-sized turtle will appear further down the line. A second player from the game that Gloria and Rathlar came from joined as well later on, but I ended up simply removing the character as he never really did much and his introduction was even more contrived than Gloria's was.
(New Frontiers) The Guardians rise late in the morning. The mages start to re-learn their spells while others search the area around Wrassledown making sure no more of those undead remain. Meetings are held and plans are made.
GM Notes: You guessed it, another day of padding.
(Elfquest) Sherwood and the elves depart the griffons stable on foot. They are traveling towards the location they believe the Chimera Medallion to be with the cooshee's. Late that afternoon, they reach find the cave where Robin Goodfellow says there is a chimera shaped stone. Indeed, there is such a stone there, but when Sherwood gets close to it he suddenly freezes up as if being held. A voice then is heard saying, “Welcome children of Corellon Larethian”. The elves approach the cave after being assured that Sherwood is not being harmed. There they see the statue of a chimera with the medallion in the lion's head. Before it can be taken, the voice tells the elves that if they touch each head and think of a medallion, its location will be seen in their minds. It is decided that the three rangers request the locations of the three medallions that remain missing; the Lizard, House, and Justice Medallions. Laucian, Nariya and Valena step up the to the statue, touch a different head and think of a different medallion. Mental images form the mind of the three rangers. Valena sees a fountain on top of a hill. Laucian sees a house out in the woods and Nariya sees a large scale. With the visions complete, the Chimera Medallion is taken and the statue breaks apart. Sherwood is freed from his paralysis. Since the nearest of the newly located medallions is at least a days march away, the elves set up camp for the night. (EQ#18)

He warns Sherra that Ansimont is a trap for mages and he suspects that his family will use this trap on the new duke and his family.
The man group of riders head out the farm of Charles Ansimont, whom, they believe to be the Baron of Ansimont. They find Charles working on his farm aiding the birth of a calf. After cleaning up, the Duke and Duchess speak to Charles and he swears fealty to the new rulers.

The fountain vanishes as it was just an illusion covering a gigantic lizard-like creature. The lizard seems to be a construct of some type, much like the warrior statue. It doesn't seem to be harmed by arrows and blades draw no blood. Talen is thrown over forty feet in the by the creature. The Lizard Medallion is spotted in the constructs forehead.
